Noodler's Ahab Flex Fountain Pen - Ahab's Pearl

The Ahab flex pen was introduced in late 2011 and is currently Noodler's most popular fountain pen. It features a steel flexible #6 nib and a slide piston mechanism. If you'd like, you can even remove the piston mechanism and use the pen as an eyedropper for a massive 6ml ink capacity. The Ahab is made of a celluloid derivative and is technically biodegradable and formed from a "renewable resource". The vegetal resin body of this pen may show particles or striations within the material. This is most noticeable in demonstrators and bright colors.

The Noodler's flex pens were designed for the hands-on tinkerer - they are made to be taken apart and adjusted. The nib and feed pull right out and can be adjusted and heat set for optimal performance. Don't be afraid to get a little ink on your fingers while you learn how to use this pen.

As a simple rule of thumb for writing with a flex pen, just apply slight pressure on your downstrokes, which will spread the tines and increase the line width, achieving that optimal line variation. Make sure to go slowly so that the ink can keep up with your writing. As with any flex pen, it just takes practice!

Due to the residual machining oils used when cutting the feeds for these pens, we highly encourage you to give the pen a good flush before use. We recommend any of the following options: distilled water, water with a touch of dish soap, a pre-packaged pen flush, or a solution of 10% clear ammonia to water. This should resolve most ink flow issues!

Noodler's Ahab Flex Fountain Pen - Ahab's Pearl is rated 4.1875 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Got this for a relative who uses it daily... I've not been able to use this Ahab myself because I made the mistake of giving it to a loved one. Alas. Based on what I have seen of it so far, it writes beautifully and is lovely to look at. I frankly don't understand all of the complaints about the color of the's a pealescent white with a few subtle, silvery swirls mined through, which in no way impacts substantially--let alone negatively--upon the overall look of the pen. A nacreous beauty that's easy to care for and will clear a whopping few bucks out of your wallet? I call that a steal. Great service from Goulet, great pen from Noodler's. Win/win.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hooray for Noodler's After many years of looking for, buying, trying fountain pens. I've finally found the near perfect fountain pen. The way it writes makes my handwriting come alive. So far I have bought 4 of these wonderful creations and I am selling my other collection of assorted fountain pens because the search is pretty much over. I have bought four pens so that I don't have to change ink every time I feel like a change, I can keep them loaded and write in purple, black, ancient copper or in oxblood without getting my fingers inky. I have recommended the Ahab to many friends who are artists and they too have placed orders. I love this pen and I will be buying more in the future, and possibly the new Konrad. Love this pen!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good starter flex pen. The pearl color is quite nice, though more gray than in the picture. It definitely needed to be flushed, and I'm still tinkering with the feed position to find the perfect spot for the ink (Rohrer & Klingner Scabiosa). It's a fun pen if you don't mind adjusting it, and a good pen to get used to how a flex nib writes. I do tend to hold my pen close to the nib, and occasionally my finger will brush the feed, staining my finger with ink. I have minimized this by adjusting the feed position.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AHAB PEARL This is another Ahab...but in the pearl colour. It is a little on the gray not expect IVORY. It is pleasant to look at and write with, and stands out among my pen collections...It has clean vibs, and can look nice inked up with pretty much any colour of ink, due to its neutral, light colour.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from unexpected color but perfect pen As of April 2016, this is a grey pen and not a white pen. It's very pretty, though--a shimmery sort of silvery grey that looks a bit opalescent, but I did think it was going to be white based on the photo. I'm not an experienced fountain pen user, but I LOVE this one!! It looks beautiful and writes well, feels smooth in your hand, & has a nice fine line (just the perfect amount of ink flow in my opinion). I am a small person with small hands and it did take me a bit to get used to the thickness of the pen, but I still love to write with it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from THIS IS MY THIRD AHAB I don't think there is any Ahab magic - you gotta fiddle with 'em to get them working right. That being said, I love mine. You can call it scratchy - I call it feedback :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like the Ahab I love the Ahab as it give me a nice fine line. It is very easy to maintain and customize to my tastes. It feels good in the hand, and holds lots of ink. But I must say the pearl is very ugly. It is nothing but a metallic silver. The color reminds me of a really bad AMF built bowling ball from the 70s. There are some other really really hansom Ahab colors. I have two Ahabs now and they wont be my last.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not exactly what I thought The Ahab is a nice pen although the pearl color isn't the bright white I thought it would be based on the pictures. Instead, it's more of a grayish color. The pen is thick, which many people like. I'd like it if it weren't quite as thick. The pen holds copious amounts of ink and is easy to take apart, clean and adjust. Overall, a nice pen.
