TACCIA Empress Maki-e Fountain Pen - Hidden Forest (Limited Edition)
The Empress Maki-e Hidden Forest from TACCIA opens into a nocturnal landscape of dark lacquer, deep green tones, and hand inlaid speckles of reflected light. Across this TACCIA Empress LE body, the forest reveals itself in layers: a rising moon, distant trees, scattered raden, and an owl moving through the night.
Having just entered The Hidden Forest, the eye is drawn to the quiet stillness - the deep verdant lacquer giving way to a full moon. A snapshot of an owl perched amongst the stars and wildlife, another flying away. The Hidden Forest never presents itself all at once; it appears through movement, angle, and light, with each turn revealing another part of the night landscape.
The Hidden Forest moon is created with hira maki-e, with Moroike-san applying exquisitely detailed metal dust to produce a finely textured surface with a natural, beaming glow. Speckles of raden, or abalone shell, add points of iridescence throughout the lower landscape, catching light like dew, water, or small openings through the canopy. Raised maki-e, polished lacquer, metallic powders, and textured surface work give the owl, trees, and moon distinct visual presence within the larger scene.
These are heirloom, museum-quality works of lacquer art created around the form and function of a fountain pen. Every surface is built through patient handwork, with layers of lacquer, gold, shell, and texture forming images that reveal themselves slowly over time. They are made not only to be written with, but to be preserved, studied, and passed forward as rare examples of Japanese maki-e craftsmanship.
This pen is a limited edition of 28 pens worldwide and is equipped with a magnificent two-tone 18K gold nib. The pen fills with either a proprietary Sailor converter or Sailor ink cartridges; both are included.
