Top Magenta Fountain Pen Inks
Are you a fan of vibrant, captivating inks? Then you're in for a treat! For my latest ink ranking, I enter into into the bold world of magical magenta inks, comparing ten different shades to find my favorite. If you've ever wondered about the nuances between hot pink, fuchsia, and true magenta, this blog gives a great rundown.
For this showdown, I used Tomoe River 52gsm white paper, a Rohrer & Klingner glass pen, and a Kakimori dip nib for consistent testing. This setup allows me to create consistent ink swabs and writing samples, making it easier to observe the true color and characteristics of each ink once dry.
Jacques Herbin Rose Cyclamen
This ink is an "oldie but goodie" for me, with a beautiful, vibrant color that leans a bit more purple.
Ferris Wheel Press Little Miss Jubilee
Little Miss Jubilee is a shimmering ink with a rose gold shimmer that initially appears more red, but the shimmer adds a lovely dimension as it dries.
Noodler's Rose Coral
Noodler's always gives you bang for your buck with their full bottles. Rose Coral leans significantly towards red for me.
Private Reserve Infinity Dark Pink
Private Reserve Infinity inks are known for extended cap-off usage. Infinity Dark Pink is a color that I describe as falling between red and purple, perhaps a fuchsia. It's also noted as the darkest of the initial bunch.
Diamine Forever Hot Magenta
Hot Magenta is an interesting waterproof ink with an opaque appearance that I find to be a "hot magenta."
Ferris Wheel Press Midway the Magnificent
Midway the Magnificent is another shimmer ink that I expected to have more purple tones compared to Little Miss Jubilee. To me, this is a "boom, magenta".
Diamine Deep Magenta
Deep Magenta is just a regular Diamine ink, nothing crazy, but it definitely lives up to its name, offering a rich, deep magenta color.
LAMY beryl
I've used beryl before and known it's a nice color, but comparing it to these others, this to me is very magenta. It's an intense, deep magenta with an interesting sheen.
De Atramentis Pearlescent Magenta Red-Copper
De Atramentis Pearlescent Magenta Red-Copper is a very vibrant ink with a red-copper shimmer that looked really cool when it popped.
Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-budo
Yama-budo is arguably my wife's favorite ink. It's a fan favorite, known for its deep magenta color and subtle sheen. I think it's a good "work-safe ink" due to its darkness.
Final Ranking
After letting the inks dry and carefully considering their nuances, I faced the tough task of picking a favorite. I had to acknowledge that some inks, like Little Miss Jubilee and Noodler's Rose Coral, leaned more red than what I consider "true magenta." Similarly, Jacques Herbin Rose Cyclamen, while a beautiful color, was a bit too purple for what I was looking for in this instance.
Ultimately, in an entirely subjective and impulsive decision, I declare Diamine Deep Magenta as my top pick magenta ink! I think it's just the all-around right color for me. It's got a little bit of shading, and for what I'm looking for in this thing, the crazy sheen and shimmer actually takes away a little bit from the ink for me. I don't know why, again, this is very impulsive, but I think Deep Magenta is going to take it. Write on!
