LAMY safari Fountain Pen - A Special Edition History
Every year, LAMY produces a special edition of the popular LAMY safari fountain pen, sometimes even in multiple colors. Here we've compiled a visual look back at all of the annual special edition LAMY safari fountain pens that have been available in the United States, for at least as long as Goulet Pens has been around.
The Colors:
October 2025: LAMY safari x Harry Potter
LAMY unveils four spellbinding additions to its safari collection, created in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products. Each pen represents a Hogwarts house—Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin—featuring signature colors, a matching clip and grip, a black steel nib, and a blue LAMY ink cartridge. Can’t choose a house? The complete four-pen set makes the perfect gift for fans and collectors alike.
August 2025: LAMY safari multi ring sets
A fresh expression of a modern classic, the LAMY safari multi ring set arrives in all black or all white with seven colorful interchangeable rings to personalize your look. Complete with a matching steel nib and blue ink cartridge, this special edition blends signature safari design with a touch of creative versatility.
Summer 2025: dark dusk and sunset coral
LAMY brings us two contrasting colors this year with the dark dusk safari featuring a dark shiny blue barrel, cap, finial, grip section and trim while the sunset coral features a matte coral red barrel and cap, with a matching finial, grip section and trim/clip.
Summer 2024: pina colada, cherry blossom
LAMY surprised us with another two special edition colors in the summer of 2024.cherry blossom features a glossy soft pink barrel and cap, with a red grip, clip, and finial. pina colada features a glossy pastel teal barrel and cap, with a bright yellow grip, clip, and finial.
2024: violet blackberry, pink cliff
One of two special edition colors for 2024 in the kewi collection! violet blackberry features a glossy dark purple barrel and cap, with a light purple finial and grip section. pink cliff features a matte blue-grey barrel and cap, with a pink finial and grip section. Both pens have a black trim and a black clip. Matching inks were also released.
2023: aquasky, lightrose, and springgreen
Another set of three pastel colors for 2023! The aquasky light blue, the lightrose pink, and the springgreen fountain pens each have a glossy pastel resin barrel and cap, with color-matched trim. Each comes equipped with a silver steel nib.
These three pastel colors are similar to the 2019 special editions, but a bit more vibrant in color.
2022: strawberry, and cream
The LAMY safari fountain pen in strawberry features a matte red body with a matching red clip and a silver steel nib.
The cream version features a matte ivory body with a matching ivory clip and a silver steel nib.
2022: white/black
This special edition in white/black featured a glossy white body with black trim and a black steel nib. An homage to a colorway from the 1980's/1990's.
2021: terra, and savannah
These two colors serve as an homage to the original LAMY safari fountain pen colors from the 1980's.
terra featured a matte orange-red body, complemented by a black clip and a black steel nib.
savannah featured a matte olive green body, with a black clip and a black steel nib.
2021: white/red
This special release in white/red featured a white body with a red clip and top finial. In the US market, a portion of proceeds went to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
2020: aquamarine, mango, and violet
These three vibrant special edition colors were dubbed the "candy" collection.
The mango featured a yellow-orange body, clip, and finial, and a silver steel nib. A matching yellow-orange ink was also made available separately in bottles and ink cartridges.
The aquamarine version featured an aqua turquoise body, clip, and finial, and a silver steel nib.
Finally, the LAMY safari fountain pen in violet featured an all-purple body, clip, and finial, and a silver steel nib.
2019: Blue Macaron, Mint Glaze, and Powder Rose
In 2019, three colors were introduced together as a special edition collection for the first time. These three LAMY safari fountain pen special edition colors were known together as the Pastel collection.
blue macaron featured a glossy pastel blue barrel and cap, with a silver clip and a silver steel nib.
mint glaze came with a glossy pastel green barrel and cap, with a silver clip and a silver steel nib.
Finally, the powder rose featured a glossy pastel pink barrel and cap, with a silver clip and a silver steel nib.
2019: USA
The USA special edition was made for the US market only, featuring a blue barrel, white cap, red clip, and silver nib.
2018: All Black
A totally stealthed-out special edition! This LAMY safari fountain pen in all black featured a matte black barrel and cap, a black clip, and a black steel nib.
2017: Petrol
Another very popular special edition! This matte teal LAMY safari fountain pen in petrol came with a black clip and a black steel nib. A matching petrol teal ink was also made available separately in bottles and ink cartridges.
2016: Dark Lilac
Definitely the most popular LAMY safari special edition ever, to this day. The LAMY safari fountain pen in dark lilac was the first purple safari. It was also the first of the popular matte versions in the special edition series. This fountain pen came with a black clip and a black steel nib, and an incredibly popular bottled ink and ink cartridges that sold out far too quickly. It now has a cult-like following!
2015: NeonLime
The final installment in a trend of bright yellow-greens was the neonlime. This LAMY safari special edition fountain pen featured a bright glossy neon yellow-green barrel and cap, silver clip, and a silver steel nib. In addition, it was accompanied by a matching neonlime bottled ink and ink cartridges.
2014: Neon Coral
Continuing the neon trend was the bright glossy pink/orange neon coral. This special edition fountain pen came with a silver clip and a silver steel nib.
2013: Neon Yellow
The first in a series of bright, neon colors was neon yellow. It came with a silver clip and a silver steel nib.
2012: Apple Green
This glossy apple green LAMY safari fountain pen came with a silver clip, and a silver steel nib.
Originally released as a special edition, it was later re-released as a regular edition under the name "green".
2011: Aquamarine
A glossy bright turquoise color, this LAMY safari special edition in aquamarine came with a silver clip and a silver steel nib.
Later re-released as a regular edition, the aquamarine color was discontinued once again.
2009/2010: Pink
First introduced as a special edition with a dot cap on the finial, then released again with the cross-etched cap, pink has a silver clip and a silver steel nib.
Later re-released as a regular edition.
2009: Orange
The special edition color for 2009 was orange, featuring a silver clip and silver nib. Not to be confused with a prior version which had a red clip.
2008: Lime Green
Yet another variant of lime green as a LAMY safari special edition, this lime green had a silver clip and silver nib.

2007: Gloss Black and White
Originally released as special editions, the shiny black and shiny white are now regular editions. Both feature a silver clip and silver nib.
2006: French Blue
This special edition LAMY safari featured a cornflower blue body with a red clip. (Pictured as a rollerball, as that's the only one Brian has in his possession!). It was also known as Royal Blue or Sky Blue.
2004: Orange 'Flame'
One of the first special editions, it featured an orange body with red trim.

1994(?): Yellow
We couldn't find much official information on this colorway, but it's one that found its way into Brian's collection! A yellow barrel with a black clip and nib, that was discontinued a few years later.
About the LAMY safari fountain pen:
The LAMY safari is a workhorse pen, known throughout the fountain pen community for its ruggedness, reliability, and no-nonsense functionality. The triangular grip makes it great for those starting out who have no idea how to hold a fountain pen. However, it's used and loved by fountain pen lovers of all levels of experience.
Each pen is equipped with an interchangeable silver steel nib, which can be easily swapped out for another size. Additionally, a blue LAMY ink cartridge is included so you can get started writing right away.

The annual special edition LAMY safari fountain pen is typically released in the late winter or early spring. A very popular pen, it is only produced for a limited period of time. Many fountain pen enthusiasts enjoy having multiple LAMY safari fountain pens in various colors and try to collect each special edition.
