Reliable Blue

Beautiful blue ink, fast drying, reliable. Just like the rest of Noodler's inks!

Great value; solid color

I bought this ink while trying out a variety of blues. I'm interested in only water-resistant inks and I love Noodler's value.

First bottled ink

Eyedropped into a Platinum Preppy with an XF nib. On Rhodia, works beautifully. Flow is perfect. Very saturated color, almost blue-black. Color was my only disappointment; was hoping for a more vivid blue. But that's why Goulet offers samples. :-) Thanks again, GP!

Nice alternative to black

I was looking for a permanent blue ink so I tried this and Liberty's Elysium. This is a nice alternative to black ink, but not what I was looking for. It's very dark. I like the vibrance of Liberty's Elysium more, but I would definitely use this in a situation where darker colors seemed more professional.

Leanest, Meanest ink around

The Bad series are Nathan Tardif's response to a challenge he had running - remove his bulletproof black from paper without destroying it, and win a prize. It took an MIT student and a laser, but it was done. So the new inks, dubbed bad are now laser proof, as well as bulletproof (waterproof, bleach/ammonia proof, archival)It's also just a great, well behaved ink. The flow is excellent, the color is deeply saturated, there's very little shading, no sheen, very little feathering in a very wet F on the worst copy paper I have ever seen, almost no bleedthrough on said paper, and little to no showthrough. Dry times are instant on copy paper, average to quick on Rhodia. Like almost all Noodlers inks, no sheen or special color effects on good paper. The only downside (and this simply is unavoidable) is that on Rhodia, water will lift a little bit of the surface ink off, causing mild smearing, though the original lines where pen touched paper are still perfectly legible. On copy paper, almost nothing happens. When you need a professional colored ink that stands out just enough on documents as to indicate an original signature without bleeding or feathering like mad on whatever paper it's on (provided you use an F or EF nib) this blue-black has you covered.

FAQ about Ink Samples

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

Check out our blog post on How to Fill a Fountain Pen from an Ink Sample Vial.

How much writing can I do with 2ml of ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It really depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our Ink samples, or one good fill with a piston-filling pen. How much writing depends on you more than anything else, so we recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.

What is shading, sheening, or shimmering ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Shading - A common (and often desired) result of a fountain pen ink pooling in certain parts of a letter when writing, so that the color and saturation of the ink appears different within a single letter or word. This characteristic cannot be achieved with ballpoint or rollerball pens and is a very appealing aspect of fountain pen use for those particularly drawn to all the pretty ink colors.

Sheen - Characteristic of a fountain pen ink where when ink pools another color can be seen on top of the ink, especially when looked at in different light angles using certain paper types. There is no way to guarantee an ink will sheen, but using a larger nib on a pen will help obtain sheening results in your writing.

Shimmering - Fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in.

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size and shimmering ink. All the ink we sell is safe for use in fountain pens.

You can learn more in our blog: How to Write with Shimmering Ink.
