Introducing the new Monteverde MP1, the first piston fountain pen in the Monteverde collection, where innovation, elegance, and advanced technology converge in a meticulously crafted design. Released as part of Monteverde's 25th-anniversary celebration, the MP1 represents a significant leap forward in the piston-fill fountain pen category, combining luxury with satisfying performance.

One of the standout features of the Monteverde MP1 is its grip section and the radiant, crystal-clear barrel, which are crafted as a single transparent piece. This one-piece construction not only enhances the pen's durability and sleek aesthetic but also provides a smooth, uninterrupted surface that feels natural and comfortable in the hand. The continuous design ensures a perfect balance and a secure grip, making the pen exceptionally comfortable during extended writing sessions.

The pen's design is further distinguished by its durable anodized aluminum cap in purple, adorned with finely etched lines that add visual appeal. The anodized blind cap, equipped with a lock-in piston mechanism, ensures that the piston remains in place, preventing accidental twisting or ink spills, adding to the pen's overall reliability and functionality.

At the core of the Monteverde MP1 is a finely crafted #6 premium German-made JoWo nib, renowned for its precision and silky smooth writing experience. The silver steel nibs are offered in six distinctive point sizes: extra-fine, fine, medium, broad, 1.1mm stub, and finally the Omniflex flexible steel nib for variation in line width.

Paired with an expertly designed plasma-treated feed system, the pen delivers consistent, reliable ink flow, ensuring rich and even lines without skipping or blotting, regardless of your writing speed or style.

The pen features an integrated piston-filling mechanism that allows for effortless ink refilling directly from an ink bottle, eliminating the need for cartridges and making the pen eco-friendly. The large 2ml ink reservoir, made of polycarbonate resin, ensures ample ink capacity, reducing the need for frequent refilling and maing it perfect for extensive writing sessions.

Subtle yet bold, Purple Frost brings a fresh and creative twist to the pen's palette. Its matte finish adds a soft touch to the vibrant purple hue, while the chrome trim highlights the pen's contemporary appeal, creating a balance between playful energy and refined design.

The Monteverde MP1 pen is beautifully packaged within a sleek, minimalist gift box, perfect for the discerning individual who appreciates both elegance and functionality. Assembled at the Monteverde headquarters in California, the MP1 adheres to the highest standards of production and quality control, a testament to the brand's 25-year legacy of precise craftsmanship.

With its lightweight yet durable construction, consistent ink flow, and elegant design, the Monteverde MP1 is a must-have for writing enthusiasts and pen collectors alike, offering a significant edge in features and value compared to its competitors. The Monteverde MP1 is an excellent choice for those seeking a professionally advanced piston-fill fountain pen that embodies reliability, durability, and user-friendly design.

Our note about the JoWo Omniflex nib: This flex nib will allow you to experience more bounce and softness than writing with conventional nibs. You can achieve some line variation with a little additional downward pressure, to a point. We recommend flexing the nib to about twice the line width that you would see without using any pressure. Please take care to avoid pressing too hard on the nib, as over-flexing could prevent the tines from returning fully to their original position and decrease or stop your ink flow.

Beautiful pen. Terribly uncomfortable.

This pen is a beautiful color. The pen works extremely well. The medium nib is fantastic! But I have two big problenms with the pen. First, the dots on the twist **** and the pen are very hard to see and line up to lock the twisting mechanism. But the idea is brilliant!! but, the dots should be white so they can be seen. I had a very hard time finding the dot on the body, especially. But making the filling **** lock so one cannot accidentally turn it and drip ink all over things is brilliant. The worse problem for me is the grip. It doesn't make sense to me. I know that it is a take on the Lamy Safari and the TWSBI ECO-T grip (kind of a midway combination). But the edges are too sharp and just don't seem to be where my fingers fall. And I have a normal grip. I use the Safari and ECO-T. It has too small a diameter and, therefore, very narrow strips of flatness on which to rest my fingers. And the grip is too long to be able to grip it farther back. Also, the edges of the metal between the grip and the body (the term escapes me) are rather sharp, so it is uncomfortable for me to find a comfortable grip. The fit and finish of the pen are excellent. The metal parts are a beautiful purple color, just like in the GPC photos. Maybe if I had thinner fingers I would find the grip more comfortable. But as it is, I am returning the pen. Too bad. If Monteverde fixed what I feel are the problems, I would buy it again. The concept is really smart. And the nib is just about perfect.

FAQs about Fountain Pens

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

How often do I need to clean my fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.

Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

My pen won’t write! What do I do? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.

We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.

If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.

If it’s still not working after that, please reach out to us so we can help!
