The LAMY dialog cc is a revolutionary fountain pen without a cap. Thanks to a fascinating twist mechanism the nib slides elegantly out of the interior of the barrel. The twist-action fountain pen is then ready to write. When the fountain pen is twisted closed, a ball valve automatically moves in front of the opening and protects the retracted nib from drying out and getting dirty.

The dialog cc features a roll stop, in lieu of a clip, creating a minimalistic look. It is slightly shorter than the dialog 3, and features rose gold-plated trim.

This matte dark blue lacquered fountain pen comes with a smooth interchangeable two-tone 14K rose gold nib. It comes with a blue LAMY ink cartridge as well as a proprietary Z27 converter to get you started writing right away. It is set in a gift box with a leather pen slip.

Note: To ensure quality performance, LAMY tests their pens as a final step in manufacturing. If you happen to see any residual blue ink, rest assured that this is normal.

Great pen!

This is now one of my favorite pens. It's got a nice feel in the hand and is nicely weighted for lots of writing.

Lamy Diolog 3 sister pen

My wife bought this pen from Goulet for myvChristmas gift in 2023. It has been in my regular rotation ever since. I really like the look, feel, and writing of this pen-- when it writes! Consistently dries out after 2-3 days. Then I have to try different things to get past the hard starts. I have tried different inks in the converter and Lamy cartridges. I really like this pen otherwise. Frustrating-- makes me want to just keep it on the shelf.

Beautiful, but with some issues (for me, anyway)

What I like about the pen:It's stunning to look at. The design is superb, simple yet elegant. The dark blue and gold color combination works exceptionally well. The saddle shape of the end cap is beautifully done and adds to the stunning lines of the pen. While some may miss a clip, I think it would have diminished the look of the pen. The minimalism of the pen is what makes it so special. The matte aluminum exterior is another feature I love. What I don't like about the pen:It's not a comfortable pen to write with for long periods of time. It is fairly heavy and surprisingly "girth-y" even though I have large hands. It's just hard to hold on to. Perhaps a slight taper of the grip section might resolve that. The smooth aluminum exterior (though it adds to the look of the pen) also makes it challenging to get a good grip on the pen. I have to hold the pen at the very end, with my fingertips close to the nib, to get a secure feel.Perhaps not unexpectedly, given the mechanism that makes it retractable, the pen tends to dry out. If I don't use it at least daily, I have to scribble on scratch paper for a moment to get it to write (I use Iroshizuku ink). I have no such issue with any of the other retractable models that I own (e.g. the Vanishing Point, Curida, Fermo). The nib is a bit wobbly, probably because of how far it extends from the pen. It's not a huge issue but just noticeable enough to be annoying (especially with a Fine nib, I want the utmost precision). It's rare that I would consider returning a pen but given the price point, lack of writing comfort, and the finicky nib, I may have to send this one back (which would be a shame because it is so beautiful to look at).

Smooth operator

Beautiful pen and super smooth nib. Feels really good in the hand - solid yet not overly heavy. Love it.

FAQs about Fountain Pens

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

Check out more info on these filling mechanisms including a video on how to fill each one on our blog.

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

How often do I need to clean my fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.

Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

My pen won’t write! What do I do? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.

We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.

If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.

If it’s still not working after that, please reach out to us so we can help!
