The Conklin Duragraph fountain pen is now offered with your choice of a reliable, smooth-writing German made JoWo #6 silver steel nib.

The Duragraph draws its inspiration from the rich heritage of the Conklin brand, which was purchased and revived by Yafa in 2009. It is manufactured in Asia, assembled and distributed from Canoga Park, California, and pays tribute to its roots with a “Toledo, Ohio” engraving on its nib and barrel. The cap top is embellished with the Conklin Est. 1898 logo and the cap band are engraved with the famous Duragraph model script font with three Conklin Crescent logos on either side of the model name. The fountain pen comes with a converter and a cartridge.

In 1923, the Duragraph model was launched, and shortly afterwards was considered to be "the definitive" pen. The model was named by combining the words, durable and graph - Duragraph. Created to last as an heirloom to serve many generations, the Duragraph is offered with a lifetime guarantee. In honor of the Duragraph's 91st birthday, Conklin has introduced a new Duragraph collection that brings a fresh, modern style to a timeless oversize flat top design. Crafted from quality hand made resins, the Duragraph is substantial in size, yet not so large to be unwieldy in the hand.

The Duragraph offers the ideal choice for your individual handwriting style. The cap top mounted clip allows the pen to sit low in the pocket, making this model a more practical choice for everyday use. Each Conklin fine writing instrument is housed in a luxury gift presentation box lined with rich satin. It comes with a converter and also accepts short standard international cartridges. Ideal as a perfect gift for yourself or a loved one, this model is the right size for both men and women who use fine writing instruments in their daily professional lives.

Gorgeous Pen, Atrocious Nib

So let's talk about what I love first. This pen has got style to spare and the purple, black, and silver are a gorgeous combination. I reach for this one a lot just based on that. I have fairly large hands and the weight and grip are both comfortable. Full marks all around. Now, the problem I had with this pen was the atrocious nib that almost made me tear my hair out. Hard starts, stops, and inconsistent ink flow just to name a few. If you can think of it, this nib had it. Without a doubt the worst nib experience I've had-nothing else comes remotely close. It was such a problem that I'm hesitant to buy a Conklin pen ever again, which seems borne out in a lot of other reviews I've read for their offerings. It's a huge shame because they consistently design some of the most beautiful pens in their price range. Something seems very off in their nib design/engineering.However, this story has a happy ending! I contacted the support at Goulet to try and get some advice on how to fix the problem. Unprompted, they apologized and sent me a replacement (which didn't work either) AND a Goulet Pens #6 nib in black. I was a little worried about swapping the actual nib out as I've never messed with the feed/nib assembly on a pen before, but I watched a video the owner Brian had done on how to do a nib swap. I've even done it a few more times to elevate some Jinhao pens that caught my eye. It was far easier than expected. Now I have a wonderful pen that writes beautifully (and looks even better with a black nib) thanks to the stellar customer service at Goulet. Easily the best interaction I've had with a support team. 5/5 service on a 3/5 pen. I've grown fond of the Goulet nibs, so I don't understand why the Conklin nibs are so god awful. My understanding is that they're all manufactured by the same company.Conklin: Fix your nibs. Goulet Pens: You guys rock! I'll always turn to you for pens, ink, and paper.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

For even more information about fountain pen cleaning, check out our Fountain Pen 101 video blog post.
