Noodler's Lexington Gray (3oz Bottled Ink) is rated 4.7083 out of 5 by 144.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent gray Lines with Lexington gray often resemble pencil marks. Of course it's permanent and waterproof. I like it for sketching when I want ink work that isn't as harsh or dark as black. This ink fits the bill nicely. It's a lovely color and constantly useful to me. I have used Noodler's inks for several years and find them reliable and high quality and recommend them to fellow artists. Also, The free pen that came free with the 4.5 oz eyedropper bottle turned out to be one of the best writing fountain pens I have yet to use. Very smooth even in a quite fine point (03). Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Interesting for sketching I hate sharpening pencils! Which is one of the reasons I prefer to sketch with ink. I usually use Platinum Carbon for a dark, waterproof black. Sometimes, though, I've found myself wanting something more pencil colored and Lexington Gray turns out to be just the ink for that. It dries quickly and is waterproof once dry so I can use it with watercolors. It flows nicely and has worked out well. I've also been using it in a brush pen for shading when using the black ink. It dries quickly and I've been able to layer it for varied gray values.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST INK EVER This is my new favorite ink. I've got three pens inked with this and I can see it being my only ink. Everybody's got their favorite blacks and their favorite blues, but only us Lexington Gray people have that distinctive pencil-like gray ink that sets us apart. Put it in a fine nib pen and it looks exactly like a number two pencil. Put it in a medium nib pen and the shades are amazing. I can't wait for someone to tell me "You can't use a pencil, you need to use a pen." Besides that quirky visual characteristic, consider this: -It's Noodler's. -It's bulletproof . -It works great in every pen I've tried it in. -You're buying it from Gouletpens.com If you want something different, and you consider things like how pleasing low contrast on the page is, and you want something appropriate for any situation, you should have some Lexington Gray in at least one of your pens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Great color, especially for drawing. As a long time pen/ink sketcher, I have always been in pursuit of the darkest blacks, and have many in my collection. But this Lexington Gray may become my new standard. it's just a pleasure to draw with - it's still pretty dark, but just has the edge off my normal black-blacks, and gives a very nice, softer less jarring affect to my drawings, and lends itself to shading/cross hatching very nicely by extending the tonal range of options, i.e. you can then go in with the black blacks for the darkest areas of the drawing and achieve a very smooth, pleasing gradation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pencil Lead oddity. I thought it was a pretty cool ink. It looks just like lead on paper except for the shading. If this is your thing go for it. Just a little too pale for my taste. I frequently write in low light conditions and this puts a bit of a strain on the eye. Had to switch back to a Black. This ink also feathers on cheap 24lb. paper with a heavy hand. It's very wet and flows super fast. With a light, fast stroke this ink looks good. It does not work well with my Ahab flex. Works great with a fine nib pen like my TWSBI Vac700.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Truly all purpose sketching gray I was looking for a gray ink that would work for a number of sketching situations, and would take a watercolor wash well. The color is a little warm as far as grays go, and I was wanting a cooler gray. Traveling with a 5 cc vial of this ink I can use it straight for darker sketch lines and for writing. I also diluted it 1:16 with water and added a drop of noodler's polar blue per 1.5 cc to cool it down, and it makes a superb lighter gray for sketching. The dilution stretches it out, too, when traveling with a limited supply of ink. I tried a lot of grays, most of which were not bulletproof and didn't hold up to even a minimal watercolor wash. Lexington works great for me undiluted, giving a nice not-quite-black line, and with the dilution possibilities it's a really flexible ink for sketching.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lexington Gray Initially used this in a new Lami Safari with mediocre results. Got the Safari on a recommendation that it was "dependable" as opposed to the Ahabs and the tinkering needed to keep them going. The Lex Gray in my Safari skipped a lot and conversely the flow was heavier than I expected. I then loaded up one of my Ahabs with this ink and it worked much, much better. In fact, I use this one at work for day to day notes and check signing. It's dark enough to be considered black until you put it next to true black - then you can see the nice gray tone. Very happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for sketching This is a fantastic ink for sketching. It's not as contrasty as black which is nice for some types of drawing. It can be washed over with watercolors. It behaves well. Diamine Gray is very nice, but lighter and not water resistant. I usually reach for the Lexington Gray when sketching. It writes well too. One of my top three favorite inks (others are tsuki-yo, tiannanmen).
