Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best black and here's why I am really impressed with this black! This is a super smooth ink that writes well on all types of paper from moleskine to watercolor. All of my pens are piston fillers. I have tried numerous Noodler's inks including the Bulletproof black. The Bulletproof black really didn't flow well for me at all.The Eel Black however, is something completely different. This is an extremely smooth writing, very black lubricated ink that delivers. Using this has inspired me to try more of the Eel inks. It is indeed "bulletproof" performing as well if you are looking for something a bit water resistant. The only thing to consider is that it takes slightly longer to dry, but the end result is super. Love this ink.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Black Eel I just received my shipment of this ink, put the order in Friday night and got it Monday morning - awesome! I also use several other Noodler's inks, but this one in particular has a specific quality about it. It feels like there is a layer of lubricant between the nib point and the paper, almost like there is some resistance to the pressure i force down on the pen. It definately feels unique and I appreciate the lack of feathering and bleed through on even thin paper. I'd get some if I were you, just to experience the "lubricating sensation" - talking about the ink folks. Thanks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm not usually a fan of black inks but... I'm not usually a fan of black inks but Noodler's Black American Eel has made a believer out of me. It is a very free flowing ink that dries quickly and leaves what I can only describe as a satin feel. Saturation is very high and there is no shading. The fact that it is bulletproof is a plus when using it to address envelopes, jot signatures, or write important notes. A surprise benefit for me is how well it works with my dip pens. I have trouble finding inks that will allow me to write more than a word when using one of my dip pens. This ink allows me to write sentences. What a difference! If you are looking for an excellent all-around black ink then Noodler's Black American Eel might just be it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from passed my test... this ink is the second Noodlers ink that i have owned and the first bulletproof one. i was extremely happy with my own test of its waterproof-ness, and when it rund out, i will definitly get more. so, basicly, i wrote a letter on a sheet of cheap copy paper using a Noodlers piston fill fountain pen and let it dry for about as long as it took me to walk to the swimming pool in my back yard. maby 30 seconds. then i tossed it in and waited for an hour. the paper ended up like toilet paper, but the ink didnt run, streak, bleed or anything!!!! thats a selling point for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great all Around black, esp in Fine Nibs I was looking for a black I could use in just about all my pens, and the Black Eel (lubricated) seems to be it. The only place where it doesn't seem to perform quite as well are in the stub-style nibs (0.8 Stub Nemosine and Goulet 1.5mm), since the ink doesn't seem to spread accross the full width of the stub like other inks do (Waterman Intense Black, and Platinum Carbon Black seem to spread across the stub width very well). It does do great in the Goulet Extra Fine nib on my Jinhao X750, and the even finer nib of the Jinhao 611 (much finer than the Goulet Extra Fine). I also use this in my Sheaffer Snorkel Admiral. It's not too difficult to clean up as the lubricated ink tends to flow off the nib pretty well (Though it may leave sort of an oil shimmer on some of the 2-tone nibs).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from pen repair. I recently bought a Persian blue Sheaffer Sentinel touchdown fountain pen from Ebay, and i had to replace the sac in it. normally when i fill a pen i just repaired for the first time, i use sheaffer skrip black, and write with it untill its dry before going on to a new ink, this pen was writing so dry, that i only got a few sentences out before the nib was scratching the paper and leaving only a little grey. so, i switched to noodlers black eel, and now the line is thick and bold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Noodler's Black Eel An incredibly dark ink. I applied watercolour paint over it and the lines remained crisp and clear. The only thing I noticed was that some of the black pigment got carried off by the watercolour paint resulting in a greyish tone. I'll have to experiment more ... perhaps it was due to the paper I used or the manner that I scratched the surface of the paper with my pen nib.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Great Ink from Noodler's I like black ink. A lot. I almost always use it and almost never stray from some variation of black (blue black is about is crazy as I get with my colors for the most part). This ink from Noodler's doesn't disappoint. It's deep, bold and resists feathering exceptionally well. I am currently using it in a Lamy Safari, Noodler's Creaper Flex and two Monteverde Primas with excellent results. Also, as usual, I love the artwork on the bottle.
