TWSBI Diamond 580 Fountain Pen - Clear, Fine is rated 4.6136 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Clear TWSBI Upgrade I have been an owner of the earliest 530, the 540 and now, the 580. (The other two have been re-homed.) The new nibs are clearly superior and, for the first time, the fine is truly a fine. The flow is generous but not gushing. The nib is smooth. The pen starts up immediately (even after a week long rest). The extra chrome is well-placed aesthetically. I really like the new section. I was worried it may spin freely based upon some reports. However, it holds fast and is comfortably. I had a cracking issue on my 530, that will not happen here. Finally, the metal part of the section does enhance the demonstrator look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'll have to get better paper to use this This is the first TWSBi pen and first dedicated piston-fill pen (I've used convertors in the past). Couldn't be happier. For being a clear pen is has a very nice quality feel to it. Nib has a little bit of springyness to it which I like. Like I said in title, only problem I've run into is it feathers like crazy on cheap laser paper. It's not a fault of the pen but I'm just used to the Lamy pens writing everywhere. Although the false starts I occasionally get with the Lamy are non existent here. I may try switching to an EF nib to see if that helps with the feathering but as long as the paper has some level of quality it writes like a dream.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow Wow Wow! I received my 580 from the Goulet Pen Co. and I was amazed by the presentation and performance of this pen. Packaged beautifully and carefully. The pen is very nicely made - on par with more expensive pens I own. There is a "heft" to the pen and it feels solid and of high quality. The broad nib is like butter on paper and fine nib is smooth with a little feedback. I REALLY appreciate the openness of TWSBI with their designs and ability to clean and service the pen. I will be a repeat customer because of that design philosophy alone. The broad nib with Noodler's Apache Sunset is amazing! I've found my new journaling and correspondence pen! Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terribly scratchy at first, got better. I inked up the pen with some noodlers ink and it was an incredibly terrible writing experience. Then I inked it up with some diamine ink, and it was much smoother and bearable. It wrote super fine, almost extra fine right out of the box. ...Two weeks later with my diamine oxblood, the pen writes smooth with a great consistency. It leaves an adequately wet trail and definitely brings out the shading in my diamine inks. The nib has definitely widened and writes like a true fine now. Lesson learnt. Give this pen a week or so before passing judgement.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Scratchy nib, leaking barrel I kept this pen for some time and used it regularly prior to reviewing. The fine nibs are terribly scratchy, the nibs on my Lamy's and even Conklin are must smoother in comparison, I tried on several different papers with no change. Then from nowhere the barrel started to actually leak into the chamber. Contacted TWSBI for a repair and they sent me a part to replace after that didn't work sending the item in for repair didn't resolve the issue either.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from big pen *fine* nib This is my first TWSBI but I've been a keen fountain pen owner for decades. The pen comes a nice surprise with its piston filling and large capacity. TWSBI philosophy, design and quality is great. Innovative packaging, with tools and instructions for disassembling and maintenance. The F nib is finer than I expected. In european pens like Caran d'Ache I prefer F, but from TWSBI I should have ordered M. In contrast to the fine nib and light weight, the overall pen size seems rather big to me. Adding to the light weight, the touch and sound of the plastic material used for barrel and cap may give a bit of a "cheap" feeling. But but for that price, this remains outstanding value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent writing experience! I bought this pen almost 3 weeks ago and the piston mechanism is very smooth and with the more ink capacity advantage. The fine nib is perfect for me. The writing experience is also very smooth and flows very well, with a good hold on the grip section, also comfortable. It doesn´t have skipping issues at any moment. Very light weight pen with good overall size and lenght also. The screw cap is very nice and the TWSBI logo finial is very well made just as all the details on it. It´s a simple design but very attractive one and well balanced. Definitely it´s one of my favorite pens right now and without a doubt it´s gonna be permanent in my weekly pen rotation for a LONG time!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from AWESOME! I've never gone outside of my usual lamy or pilot FP. but I'm starting to think I should've done it sooner. Great Design, smooth(for a fine nib), constant flow. My only complaint is that it doesn't do too well posted, as the cap is heavy and throws off the pen's balance.
