A 2ml sample of Robert Oster Red Candy fountain pen ink, in a labeled plastic vial.

Red Candy is part of the "Get.set.GO" palette of inks for late 2018, which includes Burned Orange, Crocodile Green, Deep Purple, Dragon's Night, Hot Pink, Red Candy, and True Blue. In the words of Robert Oster, this collection is inspired by "The landscape around me.. the colours I see in birds.. flowers, leaves and even the bark of Australian trees.. all composites of the palette for this set of seven."

Red Candy represents "sometimes candy apples at country fairs.. maybe red candy cane twined around white sugar sticks in December."

All Robert Oster Signature Inks are handmade in Australia. The recyclable PET bottles are manufactured in Australia's first carbon-neutral plastics plant.

Note: Robert Oster is in the process of changing the labels on their bottle, and the label on the bottle you receive may vary from what is pictured here.

A message from Robert Oster:

My great interest in fountain pen inks – and by extension inks that combine many creative applications – began with the birth of my love of fountain pens in 1989.

As Robert Oster Signature Inks are quite recent to the market, think of the interim between 1989 and today, as the fertile ground into which my present love of all things ink was seeded and grown.

The contents and packaging of my Inks are all nature friendly and the colours a genuine inventory of the Australian palette.

Robert Oster Signature originates from one of the most famous wine producing regions of the world, the Coonawarra district of South Australia, an idyllic setting with great influence on the senses. There is my inspiration. It’s a joy to share it with you.

Different colors...

Using this in a regular pen with a stub nib, this color looked very light. Almost pink. When I used it with a FPR Ultra Flex nib, it looked much darker. Like a normal red color. That nib is very wet and puts down a big volume of ink. Great shading with that nib.

Kriss
A rich jewel-toned red

I'm loving this ink. Cranberry is one of my favorite colors. This is more red than cranberry, with bright but cool tones. I paired it with the Pineider Avatar demonstrator in Red Wine, and they look great together. Although it feathered the tiniest bit on my cheap work paper, it didn't bleed through and it dried quickly. This may become my go-to red.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

Check out our blog post on How to Fill a Fountain Pen from an Ink Sample Vial, or watch the video here:

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
