This LAMY joy fountain pen has a long tapered red resin body with a red clip, and an interchangeable silver stub italic steel nib. It comes with a LAMY ink cartridge, or it also accepts a LAMY Z28 converter to use bottled ink (sold separately). The triangular grip is helpful for proper hand/grip position while writing.

Originally a special edition color for 2023, the joy strawberry is now a regular part of the line.

Note: To ensure quality performance, LAMY tests their pens as a final step in manufacturing. If you happen to see any residual blue ink, rest assured that this is normal.

One of the best pens I've ever had!!

I've been using fountain pens since I was 10 years old, and started growing my own collection at 13.
I am a Healthcare worker and those this pen as a work pen, and it does not disappoint. It is smooth, reliable, sturdy, and has a massive ink reservoir. I want one in every color and size.
If you want it, get it! I promise you will not be disappointed.

Great pen

Great pen, love the feel...and the color!

Great Feeling Pen!

I bought the 1.5mm stub and can't be happier! This is quite a long pen, much longer than the regular Safari - just keep that in mind if looking to purchase.

The red is attractive; the pen is well-balanced in the hand; the nib is smooth and the feed seems perfect. The stub (1.1) produces a nice line variation in an italic hand; as I might prefer a larger swell I will definitely try a 1.5 nib in the future. This is the pen I use for correspondence.
The grip is slim and more acute than I like, but completely acceptable. I don't find it or the nib useful for medieval calligraphic styles, but think the pen is designed for an italic hand.
The cartridge mount is long; buy a converter, as a bulb syringe won't work and I don't otherwise see a convenient way to clean the pen.

Love!

I love this pen so much! I have been waiting for a white Lamy Joy, but this red one is the best!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill this LAMY fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

This fountain pen can fill with proprietary LAMY ink cartridges, or from a LAMY converter.

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses proprietary LAMY ink cartridges, which are available in a range of colors.

As for converters, LAMY does make two different converters - the red Z28, and the black Z27. All of their fountain pens (except the 2000) can accept the black Z27; typically this converter is included with the higher-end LAMY pens like the aion, cp1, scala, and studio. The red Z28 has additional knobs for a more secure installation that is compatible (and sold separately) on the AL-star, joy, and safari.

We've got a great video demonstrating both filling methods here:

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
