Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rich, warm red Let me be just another reviewer to give this delicious ink a 5-star rating! The color is a warm, lustrous red with golden overtones (which appears to be greenish shimmer on close inspection). From a distance the color is exactly that of freshly drawn blood (not that that's my thing, but I must admit fresh blood is an amazing color!). This ink also behaves well in every pen that I've used it in and I've not experienced feathering nor bleedthrough, even on the lower quality paper I use at work. It looks great on white & cream colored papers. It is my go-to red at work and at home. The bottle is simply stunning and it conjures the olden days. I love everything about this ink!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My FAVORITE red ink. Allow me to wax poetic? I LOVE this ink. A lot. It's by far my favorite red ink, and among my favorite inks overall. It exhibits excellent shading, doesn't feather, doesn't bleed through, and has more depth than most other inks of all colors on the market. You'll need to shake it vigorously before use, because inside the bottle you'll see some "sediment". But this sediment isn't some nasty leftover junk from the manufacturing process, but rather it's made up of gold flakes. In the heavily shaded areas of letter, the gold sits atop the thick ink and shines in the right light. Its's really a beautiful thing to behold. And even without considering the gold flakes, it's a very saturated, well-toned red. I highly recommend this ink.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from At a Loss of Words... Well, only partially Allow me to put it bluntly. I have never experienced extremely pleasurable (to the extent of giddy laughter) writing... until I used this ink. I cannot say enough about it. At least I try to, but I end up stumbling with my words because of how amazing it is. I was tentative at first on using it because it's so pretty in its bottle, but after deep cleaning my favorite pen (Pelikan M215 Demonstrator), I filled it. This ink is a total dream. It has truly set the bar for me. It goes well on any paper -- Tops Docket Gold, Moleskine, printer paper, Rhodia Webbie, etc. The flow is magical and just writing with it is inspiring. The color is rich and perfect. It does gunk up a little on the nib after a period of time. It doesn't effect the flow or anything. They actually warn of this on the box in a way. If at all possible, buy it. Cherish it. Use it. It won't be regretted!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vibrant blood! wiht a hint of Gold! this color does resemble fresh dawn blood, as stated by others, with some gold tones to it. a nice bright red that is hard to not notice. does not really offer shading but if you can get some of the gold in the lines it makes for an interesting page of notes. so for that despite what some say i suggest some shaking before drawing the ink from the bottle, but to each his own, it is your pen after all. behaves well on college lined paper, offers some slight water proof properties but does tend to smear easily

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rich and elegant ink This ink has such depth to it, I don't think I've actually seen a red quite like it before. The only complaint I have is that there is sediment in the ink, so the bottle requires shaking and there's a chance it might block your pen - I've yet to have this issue though with the ink in three different pens (two Lamy safaris and a Shaeffer). Overall I recommend this ink if you're looking for a rich colour which is still dark enough to be very clear to read on white paper.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful color We would use this ink more if we didn't need to write everyday, or if we wrote enough in a day that we were cleaning our pens and changing inks daily. That said, it's nice to have for a change of pace every once in a while -- you just have to be sure to empty and rinse your pen thoroughly within 36 hours of filling up with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ink J. Herbin's 1670 ink commemorates the founding of the company back when they made sealing wax specifically; and the red color is in homage to that wax. On paper, it's a bit like writing in blood, or at least pomegranate juice. Flows smoothly in a fountain pen exactly as you want your ink to flow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from J Herbin anniversary ink I'll admit - I ordered this ink because of the bottle with the wax seal. I'm not a red ink person, but when tried the ink, I became a convert. B l o o d red ink. I won't use it often, but I love the color and the slight gold-ish sheen that it gives when used with a broad edged nib. Again, your service is superb. Keep up your wonderful customer relationships and you will prosper for years to come.
