CYLINT represents a fresh and distinct pen design from Sailor, breaking away from the conventional 1911 or Pro Gear models. The 21k solid gold nib, metal section, and appealing size and weight make the CYLINT Patina a delightful choice for writing enthusiasts seeking a unique and refined pen experience.

Crafted by master artisans, the brown patina applied is a Hanmon-Kujyaku (mottled peacock) finish, intricately achieved through a unique process, resulting in a pattern reminiscent of a peacock's exotic beauty. Each pen boasts an individualized finish, as the handcrafted process using brass emphasizes the uniqueness of patterns and color shades on the surface. The intentional corrosion and oxidation of the metal material offer a distinct texture, with the appearance evolving over time, gaining character and depth.

The Sailor CYLINT has a gold ion-plated pen clip, cap ring, and a weighted ion-plated gold metal grip section. The fountain pen shines with a 21k gold nib in Fine, Medium, or Broad. The CYLINT fountain pen comes with a Sailor proprietary converter as well as two proprietary Sailor Black ink cartridges.

Maintenance and Handling:
When you feel the need to clean your CYLINT Patina pen, wipe gently with a damp
cloth that has been wrung out well, then wipe again with a dry cloth, and always store
in a dried state. Any residual moisture may cause the piece to corrode/become tarnished. Make sure not to get organic solvents such as alcohol or vinegar on the
piece, as it may cause tarnishing. Any surface scratches caused by friction, etc. may
lead to oxidation, promoting patina growth, corrosion or tarnishing. It is the nature of brass to change color over time and this change is a trait to be cherished. Therefore, returns/exchanges are not accepted for reasons such as patina growth, corrosion or tarnishing.

Great Looks anf Feel

This pen just has it … that wow factor. I very much like Sailor nibs and the “fine” one on my new Sailor CYLINT is just exceptional. The “Patina” finish is well done and makes for a distinctive and handsome look. Overall this is one of my favorites. An enjoyable writing experience.

Solid pen made with beautiful materials

I bought the pen because I like patinated surfaces and this patina grew from the history of Japanese materials and design, which lends a mystique. I figured it was bound to be exquisite, and to my eye it is. The patina and gold are better balanced on the actual pen than a photo can show. The gold is subtler in reality. The effect is more nuanced than ostentatious. The pen is a precision instrument, as one would expect from Sailor. It is long when posted, which is nice for my long fingers. I have been using Sailor pigment ink, which writes on the dry side in this pen. I like the tactile quality that gives with the surface of the paper. My penmanship is a bit more regular than usual, maybe because of the relative dryness and, stretching my fingers, I naturally use more wrist action and less finger action than usual. That's not to say my penmanship is ever entirely regular, just more so with this pen than most. The price seems reasonable for a quality pen with a special surface.

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above. 

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck. 

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. 

Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

My pen won’t write! What do I do? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.

We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.

If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.
