LAMY AL-star Fountain Pen - A Special Edition History
Every year, LAMY releases a special edition color of the popular AL-star fountain pen. Each is produced for a limited time, and is highly sought after by collectors.
Here we'll give you a visual look back at all of the annual special edition LAMY AL-star fountain pens that have been available in the United States, at least as of 2011 when we first began carrying LAMY fountain pens.
2026: flamingo, pine
LAMY released two AL-star special edition colors for 2026. flamingo is a pink anodized aluminum with pink trim, a translucent pink grip section, and a silver steel nib. pine features a forest green anodized aluminum with dark green trim, a translucent green grip section, and a silver steel nib.

2025: aubergine, denim
LAMY switched things up with contrasting colors on the aubergine and denim special editions for 2025. Featuring a muted purple anodized aluminum, the aubergine AL-star featured a translucent neon yellow grip section and a bright yellow top finial. Meanwhile, the denim blue anodized aluminum AL-star featured a translucent orange grip section and an orange top finial. Both are complemented by a black LAMY nib and a black clip.
2024: autumn pink, sage
These special edition stunners feature an anodized aluminum body, a sleek black steel nib, and matching black trim—perfect for adding a touch of vibrancy to your collection. The autumn pink model boasts a soft baby pink body with a translucent pink triangular grip, while sage offers a serene green body paired with a matching translucent green grip.
2024: aquatic, fiery
LAMY added a splash of color to the AL-star's grip section in 2024. aquatic featured a bright spring blue with a translucent deep blue grip section, while fiery is a reddish-pink shade with a red translucent grip section. Both pens are complemented by black trim and an interchangeable black steel nib.
2023: lilac, petrol
We were happy to see these two colors introduced in 2023! lilac is a pink-leaning lavender purple, while petrol is a deep teal. Both colors were complemented by chrome trim and a silver nib.
2022: whitesilver
The LAMY AL-star whitesilver special edition featured a bright, glossy silver color, complemented by chrome trim and a silver nib.
2021: azure, cosmic
LAMY released two different colors of the AL-star special edition for 2021.
azure was a very light silvery blue, and cosmic was more of a pale gold color, both with silver trim and a steel nib.
2020: turmaline
turmaline is a very striking green-turquoise color. This special edition was accompanied by a matching turquoise ink which was slightly more on the green side. Now it's available as a regular edition!
2019: bronze
This bronze orange colored special edition fountain pen was also accompanied by a matching ink.
2018: vibrantpink
This was a hot one! The fuchsia vibrantpink fountain pen was accompanied by a hot pink ink that featured added shimmer in the bottled ink version.
2017: pacific
A true turquoise color. This fountain pen was also accompanied by a matching pacific turquoise ink which was nearly identical to their regular turquoise ink color.

charged green was a lime green that leaned towards the olive side.
2015: copperorange
One of the most popular colors, copperorange was a deep yet vibrant orange. Also accompanied by matching ink.
2014: bluegreen
This aptly named bluegreen, a blue-leaning green, later became a regular edition color in 2016, then was discontinued again.
2013: black, pearl
Two colors for 2013. The matte black fountain pen with a black nib and trim was added as a regularly offered color in 2015.
pearl was an elegant white-gold color with silver trim.
2011: ruby red
Our very first special edition LAMY AL-star color as a LAMY retailer. ruby red was a vibrant red, with a hint of brown, accompanied by silver trim.
2010: coffee
coffee brown featured an anodized brown body with silver trim.

2009: black purple
Originally a special edition for 2009, blackpurple is now a regular edition as of 2011. Also known simply as purple.

2008: silvergreen
The special edition in silvergreen was released with a chrome clip in 2008; it was also released before this date with a black clip and nib (pictured here, release date unknown).

2007: oceanblue
The AL-star in oceanblue features a stunning anodized blue aluminum body and silver trim. Originally the 2007 special edition, it was added to the regular line in 2009.

2007(?): silverblue
Brian was able to get his hands on a past special edition in silverblue, though we haven't been able to identify the release date yet, likely in the 2000's. Also known at the time as lilac, as the color appearance varies in different lighting conditions.
