The TWSBI Mini comes with a benchmark piston ink-filling mechanism and has all detachable parts. Like many other TWSBI fountain pens, it features a crystal clear acrylic barrel so you can see your ink level, and a clear cap. It is completed with silver trim and a silver stainless steel nib.

TWSBI's belief is that it is important to allow the user to disassemble and reassemble the pen and completely experience the traditional aspects of owning and using a fountain pen. These pens also come packaged with a wrench and silicone grease. Neither of these accessories are intended to be used immediately, as they are for long-term care and maintenance. Additionally, please use extra care if you choose to disassemble the nib and feed, as the feed is very fragile.

Do not recommend: Nice pen but the nib is stuck and it cannot be fully disassembled for cleaning.

I bought 2 of these pens for drawing after seeing multiple vendors and people on YouTube completely disassembling the pen. An outstanding Pen & Ink artist / art professor on YouTube showed how easy it was to replace the TWSBI nib with a good flexible steel nib for drawing. I use lightfast De Atramentis pigment inks and wanted to use one with the pigment ink and the second with a flex nib. It needs to be disassembled for a thorough cleaning. Unfortunately, the nib and feed are stuck tight in both pens. Neither can be fully disassembled for a thorough cleaning. The flex nib cannot be installed either. I watched Drew's video on disassembling the TWSBI nib and tried the suggestion for chilling the nib with no luck. I followed the instructions on the Goulet web site to contact TWSBI via e-mail asking for replacements on the defective stuck nib/feed units. I have received no reply. I do not recommend this pen due to not being able to disassemble it for cleaning as it was advertised, and the lack of customer support from TWSBI.

Mechanically, there's nothing wrong with the product. It loads and writes smoothly. My complaint is that it the line width feels like the equivalent of a 0.7 mm pencil. It's a lot thicker than I thought it would be considering Pilot's "extra fine" is more like a 0.2 mm pencil.

You can load a shimmer in this pen no problem. The problem with shimmers when they clog, I discovered, is that it's how quickly the shimmer settles in the ink. If you load this pen with ink, when you aren't using it, lay it on its side. At least for me, it's worked the best that way.

Quality control issue

The pen is great and writes as well as gold nib. There rubber piece on back of pen keeps falling off. Hopefully, twsbi will solve design issue.

I luv this pen

It works for. Not only because of its size, but braise of how it writes.

Not as nice

The mini does not write as nice as the regular size. I inked it up with the same ink I am using in my ECO, but it skips and actual drops of ink we falling onto the paper. I thought maybe I had overfilled it, but even with half the ink in the reservoir, the pen performs badly. I will try other inks, but since the ECO works fine with this same ink, I don't have much hope.

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink?

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.

How do I clean this fountain pen?

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
