The Monteverde Dakota fountain pen is compact when closed, but a full-sized pen when posted. The Slip-In cap has an oh-so-satisfying feel. This fountain pen features a stainless steel barrel and cap with silver trim and a JoWo #5 steel nib.

The Stainless Steel variant offers timeless appeal with its brushed matte finish. Stainless steel is durable, corrosion-resistant, and built to last through daily use. Its natural weight provides a balanced feel in hand, while chrome trim adds modern sophistication.

Inspired by the Douglas C-47 Skytrain—the Dakota aircraft that played a pivotal role in World War II—the Monteverde Dakota collection honors the 80th anniversary of the war's end. The pen's pocketable design transforms from compact to full-sized when posted, making it easy to carry and use however you prefer. The innovative SLIP-IN CAP™ glides effortlessly into place with a gentle push, delivering an airtight seal that keeps your ink fresh. The cap is adorned with an engraved Dakota plane propeller, adding a nostalgic touch.

The Dakota features a premium JoWo #5 nib from Germany, offered in Extra-Fine, Fine, and Medium point sizes. Renowned for precision and smooth performance, it delivers a luxurious writing experience with every stroke. The fountain pen fills via standard international short ink cartridges or a full-sized standard international push-in piston converter (included). Elegantly packaged in a luxury gift box with a military green themed sleeve adorned with a propeller logo, it makes the perfect gift.

More about the Douglas C-47 Skytrain:
This aircraft was instrumental during crucial moments of the World War II, most notably on D-Day, June 6, 1944. During this pivotal operation, the C-47 Skytrain was vital in executing Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy. It transported thousands of paratroopers, including the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, and delivered essential supplies and equipment to the landing forces.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
