2ml shimmering dark blue fountain pen ink sample of Colorverse NGC 1850 in a labeled plastic vial.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens. We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging. You will also want to be diligent about cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.

Pretty but dangerous

Its a gorgeous ink, but it damaged the inside of my Monteverde MVP demonstrator. Would not use again. The Monteverde was a clear demonstrator when I purchased it. The colorverse NGV 1850 sample vial was the first ink I put in the pen. When I went to wash the ink out, the body wasn't clear anymore, instead it looked frosted or etched. Tried a cotton swab on the inside to see it was just particulate hanging on to the sides, nothing further came off and it felt rough.

Beautiful Ink

My first time using a shimmering ink. Wow, such pretty!! It is wet, no flow issues in the Prefounte I am using it in.Of note, I have used it on 4 different papers; Midori MD paper, Midori MD Cotten paper, Clairefontaine Triomphe, and HP premium32. The most sheen can be seen on the MD paper, the the MD cotton. The sheen is so distinctive on the MD paper at certain angles it gives the blue/res effect of 3-D movies from the 70's. The Clairefontaine has some sheen but nothing near what the MD paper's do. The HP premium32 showed zero sheen, the ink was just a very nice deep blue green. It looked great but no sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink (a fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in) is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size with shimmering ink. While it is safe to use in fountain pens, it may require a little extra maintenance.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens, especially with finer nibs.

We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling, and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging.

You will also want to be diligent about regularly cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
