Platinum Preppy Fountain Pen - Blue, Fine is rated 4.4961 out of 5 by 127.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent value for the money I bought this pen with the intention of converting it into an eyedropper pen, so I can't tell you how well the ink cartridge that came with it worked. I can tell you, though, that I'm very pleased with the performance it's given me with my bottled inks. I had to clean the pen and then tweak the nib just a touch to get it to flow as wet as I like, but once I did it's been writing like a champ. For the money, I don't think you can ask for more. And since it cost so little, I'm comfortable taking it with me everywhere without worrying about losing or dropping it! I'm thinking about buying another one or two of these, I'm so pleased with them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, cheap pen Bought it as a gift for a family member wanting to start using fountain pens, but I gave it a quick test drive to make sure they would be getting a good pen. And so far it seems to perform well above the price paid for it. It writes a lot smoother than one of my Lamy Safaris, and the Fine nib puts down a very narrow line without being too scratchy. The included ink cartridge is nothing special; well behaved on cheap paper but a somewhat dull, undersaturated blue (as a side note, the colour is nicer on cheaper, more absorbent paper than it is on Clairefontaine paper). That the pen is the cheapest demonstrator available is a bonus, and the blue nib to match the cap and included cartridge is a nice touch. Would definitely recommend this pen to a beginner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An amazing buy Purchased this pen so I could fill it with Noodler's Bay State Blue ink (wasn't game to risk a whole 4.5oz bottle that comes with a free pen). This is my 4th Preppy pen (including the free one that came with my bottle of X-Feather), and so far I'm loving it. The plastic doesn't look that durable - though for $3.95 who cares? - but it writes really well on all kinds of paper. A bit of nail polish remover to get rid of the labelling (much quicker than denatured alcohol), and it looks even better!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Good Bargain The Platinum Preppy does a great job for the price. I like to have half a dozen fountain pens ready to go for different types and colors of ink. I don't think it's practical to have that many expensive pens. The quality of the pen is better than the price would suggest. As with all the Preppy pens I purchased, I never tried the supplied ink. This Preppy is an eyedropper conversion and is filled with Diamine Sherwood Green. It does the job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great writer - great price! I have used an EF Preppy for almost a year and I love it. Decided to see what difference a F would be. Not much. Still love it. Both are converted to eyedropper - easy peasy with the O-rings and Goulet silicon grease. I've never had a leakage problem, and these rattle around in a pouch at the bottom of my backpack. I think I prefer the F nib to the EF - need to write small at work, but the F is a little bit smoother. For the money, this is an incredible pen. Thinking about getting one for my son at the holidays - great introduction to fountain pens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Platinum Preppy---Eye Dropper Mod After reading about the Eye Dropper Modified pens on The Fountain Pen Network, I wanted to try at least one. One day, while browsing The Goulet Pen Company website, I found that the Goulet's were selling Platinum Preppy Pens with a Eye Dropper Modificatiion. I had to have at least one and so I ordered four to have a few spares. I could not have been more delighted with a purchase. Immediately upon receipt I loaded two of the four pens I had ordered with two different blue inks. From the first touch to the paper, both pens have written perfectly. No skipping, and no drying out and having to restart the ink flow. If you are looking for an eye dropper to test, or get the feel of what an eye dropper is, order one and enjoy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good starter pen. Bought one of these to introduce a friend to fountain pens but before I gave it away I gave it a try for myself. The fine nib was almost like a LAMY Medium nib and the ink feathered a little little bit on cheap paper and it wasn't as dark black as lets say Noodler's Black but all in all, this is probably the best pen in this price range and a great starter pen.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works. It is a dirt-cheap fountain pen. Has Japanese writing all over it which is, if nothing else, interesting and unique. I never actually used the cartridge, I got a converter. These pens are really durable and easy to use as-is, with a converter, or even as an inkdropper pen. Use as an inkdropper always made me nervous that it would leak if flexed or if I accidentally tried to unscrew the top instead of just pull (many fountain pens have a twist-on cap so it could be easy to do.) So I just stick with the converter.
