Platinum Preppy Fountain Pen - Black, Fine is rated 4.4605 out of 5 by 152.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from OMG, it writes better than my expensive... It's a cheap petrochemical plastic environmentally unfriendly abomination that should be hateful in the eyes of man and nature. And yet, as an eye dropper it holds a huge amount of ink, and it is so interesting to look at. The colors are so nice, the nib so smooth! Writes Hangul characters, and Chinese, sooooo cleanly. I am ashamed to say how much I spent on the pen that this one put to shame. It's so tempting, at this price, to buy these by the handful! I give them to people who are curious about my fountain pens. Zero stars for being a piece of plastic c..., and 5 stars for being an amazing writer that's always ready, and that makes my friends happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent value for the money I bought this pen with the intention of converting it into an eyedropper pen, so I can't tell you how well the ink cartridge that came with it worked. I can tell you, though, that I'm very pleased with the performance it's given me with my bottled inks. I had to clean the pen and then tweak the nib just a touch to get it to flow as wet as I like, but once I did it's been writing like a champ. For the money, I don't think you can ask for more. And since it cost so little, I'm comfortable taking it with me everywhere without worrying about losing or dropping it! I'm thinking about buying another one or two of these, I'm so pleased with them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best pen I have ever used so far This pen is excellent for me and my relatively skinny handwriting. The nib is quite small, but doesn't restrict flow from my experience. The nib may be slightly scratchy, but I like the tactile feedback. It's more of a "smooth scratchiness" that doesn't make the pen feel like it's skipping. The cap yields a very exquisite "click" when closing the pen! One thing: don't uncap the pen too quickly because it creates a vacuum inside the cap that can cause ink to be pulled out from the breather hole. This may cause some ink blobs in the cap and on the nib. Used without problems with Pilot Black cartridge and Diamine Asa Blue

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good pen for the money Very smooth writing. Other people have mentioned that the ink is a little light, I would have to agree. It's more of a dark grey than black. But for under $4, it's a nice pen. I have a Bic disposable fountain pen (under $4) but it doesn't write as smoothly. Update: I tried this pen as an eye dropper. For me this didn't work so well. It burped ink regularly. I discussed this with Brian and I couldn't get my pen to stop. I ended up buying the converter and the pen works really well. I recommend using the convertor with this pen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pen for a Great Price! I bought this about a month ago as an introduction into the fountain pen world, little did i know this pen would be a great writer it has a really good flow,is light-weight,writes pretty good on cheap paper and writes very smooth this is an ultimate value pen.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nay! I found the pen too light to use... I prefer heavier pens that provide some momentum when I wrirte. The nib was also very .. very scratch.. and the cap developed cracks out of .. nothing... it just cracked without being hit or slamed or abused in any way. The best thing about this pen is that I was able to remove (get rid) of the platinum nib and replaced the feed and nib with a Pilot Varsity which is smooth like a hot knife on butter. Being an eyedropper fill, it hols A TON of ink I believe close to 5ml. (or more).... the other positive point is that this was a free pen with a bottle of ink. all in all, I would NOT buy this pen for more than $0.01!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oh, heck, yes!! Maybe I'm just a 'strange duck', but I carry several fountain pens with me at all times, for both writing and calligraphy. I =like= being able to see which 'ink' I'm pulling out, and how much is left before I have to re-load it. Further, this pen is inexpensive, has a nice 'feel' while using it, and just does a marvelous job daily. It's also a nice pen to let people re-learn how to use a -real- pen, a -fountain- pen, after they've been "corrupted" by 'The Dark Side' (i.e.- ball points). LOL! (Yes, I now have three and plan to get more as other pens 'die off'.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great customer service I don't generally have a strong enough opinion about things I buy to merit a review, but the handwritten note that came with the pen really cheered me up. They did mix up part of my order (they sent me the wrong ink cartridges), but within a day of sending them an email they had already sent me a new set of cartridges, so no complaints there. The shipping was also a little less than at JetPens, I think (probably because JetPens ships from...Taiwan?). The price wasn't that much different though. Anyway, no problems with the pen. It's not substantially different from the one I bought at JetPens (in fact, I can't tell them apart). Basically, five stars for a very nice, pleasant buying experience.
