Safely Replacing a LAMY Feed

While the feeds of LAMY fountain pens aren't made to be removed as a regular part of their operation, it is possible to accidentally pull one out when swapping your nib. If you put the feed back in incorrectly, you can jam it in and make it nearly impossible to remove without damaging it. I made this video to help you safely replace your feed in your pen in case you should find yourself in this situation. I hope it helps here's a step-by-step guide below!

First things first:

  • Most LAMY pens (like the Safari, AL-Star, Vista) have a triangular grip, which means the feed and nib must be aligned just right. There is a channel inside the grip section that part of the feed must slide into, so proper alignment is very important!

  • This does not apply to the LAMY 2000—that pen has a completely different setup.

If you’ve removed the feed (on purpose, or accidentally):

  • Don’t force it! Inserting the feed the wrong way can jam it and make it nearly impossible to remove without damaging it. You will have to buy a whole new pen if you get the feed stuck in the grip section.

  • The feed has a raised ridge that needs to slide into a channel inside the grip section. This bears repeating!

  • If it doesn’t slide in easily, stop and realign—it should go in with little resistance.

Pro tip for pens with a triangular grip:

  • Hold the pen naturally, with your thumb and forefinger on each side of the grip section along the sculpted edges.

  • Line up the feed so it's centered between your fingers—this is the correct orientation.

  • Slowly start to insert the feed, If you encounter any resistance, stop and realign the feed. If it slides into place- you've done it!

For non-triangular LAMY pens (like the CP1, Studio, Logo):

  • Look inside the grip to find the channel at the bottom.

  • Align the raised part of the feed with that channel before gently pressing it in.

  • Rotate slightly if it doesn’t go in right away—don’t force it!

Once it’s in:

  • You’ll feel a slight click when it’s seated properly.

  • You should see a tiny bit of the black feed sticking out at the back of the nib.

 What to avoid:

  • Never force the feed in if you feel resistance—it could damage the part.

  • LAMY doesn’t sell replacement feeds, so be extra careful when handling it.
