Standard Magenta

I am not a huge fan of this pink for writing. As a red, I would prefer Noodler's Ottoman Rose or De Atrementis Red Roses. As a pink, I would prefer J. Herbin's Rose Cyclamen. Granted, Rose Cyclamen is has a lot more blue than this magenta. I didn't notice anything special about this ink. Other than being a little bright for me I have no problems. Can't tell if this is scented or if I didn't clean my pen well enough after De Atrementis Red Roses. Pleasant scent if it is.

Service and product

Order was filled immediately and the product's expectation was very good....please repeat for all the samples and the pens....will buy again....

Good pure rose

I bought this ink to mix with other simple Noodler's ink colors like Navajo Turquoise, Noodler's Yellow and Black to make my own blues, reds, oranges and greens. The first blend I made includes Navajo Turquoise, Shah's Rose and Noodler's Black, resulting in my current favorite blue-black ink. It is very well behaved, my perfect balanced blue, neither purple nor teal, and dark without being so dark I can't see blue. The next color I mixed was with Noodler's Yellow and Shah's Rose to make a pure, clean, not too pale orange. It behaves well with my extra fine Esterbrook nib. When I mix inks, I go carefully -- I first make a very small sample and set it aside for a few days to verify that the inks do not react badly with each other before I fill any pens.Being able to mix my own fp ink colors is great, but I will continue to look for Nathan's specialty blends -- anything with unique properties that simple ingredients would never produce.

Great Magenta

I thought this color was beautiful! A great magenta-pink. Mixed 9:1 with Rattler Red gives the exact same color as Iroshizuku Momiji but not necessarily the same performance.

Well, it is pink

I'm not a pink person. However, I needed an endurable pink for a pink pen (oi) and hoped for one that wouldn't hurt me. (I fulfilled a promise.) I'm happy. This color is actually pleasant. For someone who doesn't much care for pink, I am ok with this ink.

FAQ about Ink Samples

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

Check out our blog post on How to Fill a Fountain Pen from an Ink Sample Vial.

How much writing can I do with 2ml of ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It really depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our Ink samples, or one good fill with a piston-filling pen. How much writing depends on you more than anything else, so we recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.

What is shading, sheening, or shimmering ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Shading - A common (and often desired) result of a fountain pen ink pooling in certain parts of a letter when writing, so that the color and saturation of the ink appears different within a single letter or word. This characteristic cannot be achieved with ballpoint or rollerball pens and is a very appealing aspect of fountain pen use for those particularly drawn to all the pretty ink colors.

Sheen - Characteristic of a fountain pen ink where when ink pools another color can be seen on top of the ink, especially when looked at in different light angles using certain paper types. There is no way to guarantee an ink will sheen, but using a larger nib on a pen will help obtain sheening results in your writing.

Shimmering - Fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in.

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size and shimmering ink. All the ink we sell is safe for use in fountain pens.

You can learn more in our blog: How to Write with Shimmering Ink.
