Diplomat Aero Fountain Pen - Stripes Black
This matte silver Diplomat Aero fountain pen features a Zeppelin-inspired anodized aluminum body with groove-like black depressions on the barrel and cap. It has a satisfying soft sliding click cap that posts securely onto the barrel when writing. It features a smooth writing #6 JoWo stainless steel nib, a gunmetal grip and trim, and fills via standard international cartridge/converter (both are included).

I received this pen as a gift from my girlfriend. She bought it not so long ago. The order number is S1695051. Being into the fountain pen hobby for a while I decided to help her with a present. I have read and watched many review on a Diplomat Aero and was confident that this pen should join the rest in my possessions. I like the aesthetics of this specific variation of Aero. When I finally get the pen in my hands it did not disappoint my expectations. Build quality is superb. Even though it is a metal pen and by no means it is considered to be light it feels and sits surprisingly comfortable in a hand. Being a Fine point steel it is rather smooth. I had some doubts and hesitated between gold and steel nib. Diplomat made me change my attitude towards steel nibs. It will definitely be one of my EDC pens. I would give this review 5 stars because the pen itself really deserves it but there is one catch with my specific item.Unfortunately nib is misaligned with a feed in way which I've never seen before on any of my pens. I tried to pull it off and do the adjustment but it sits real tight thus I do not want to push hard on it in order not to break the whole nib unit. It is a pity because my girlfriend asked to inspect a pen and check everything before shipment. Apart from that it could have made a dream pen for me out of the box.

The pen is gorgeous. It reminds me of fluted armor. The nib is this beautiful large nib that just writes splendidly. The included converter also holds a surprising amount of ink. I like to syringe fill mine. I would most definitely recommend this pen.
I love the smoothness of the Jowo #6 nib in this Diplomat Aero, the weight of the pen, how the cap snaps on so succinctly, the esthetical appearance of the metallic contoured stripes that run the length of the pen, the small star embellishment at the top of the cap, and the better than average ink converter capacity that comes with it. If I had to list any con it might be about aluminum pens in general in that they can get small striations/scratches over time. Also if you want a longer pen, make sure you check the length and measure against your hand. I have good sized hands and it's fine for me. An extra large hand maybe not so much.
This is currently my favorite pen, the weight and overall quality are great,the snap cap is one that just has to be felt, highly recommend this pen!

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink?
It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.
Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:
- Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
- Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
- Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
- Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
- Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

How do I clean a fountain pen?
It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.
It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:
How often do I need to clean my fountain pen?
We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.
Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
My pen won’t write! What do I do?
First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.
We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.
If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.
