Jinhao is known worldwide for their vast and affordable collection of fountain pens. In this blog post we're going to focus on the X750 and what makes is a great starter pen for newbies, and a great addition for veterans alike.

There are several models of Jinhao pens available, but the one I'm going to focus on today is the Jinhao X750.

Quick Overview:

The Jinhao X750 is an all-metal, snap-cap fountain pen featuring a standard #6 steel nib, a medium weight, and an unexpectedly impressive writing experience—especially for the price point. It’s beginner-friendly, modifiable, and ideal for tinkerers and casual users alike.

 Pros:

  • Outstanding value – Affordable and includes a converter.

  • All-metal construction – Durable and substantial in the hand.

  • Standard #6 nib – Easy to swap with Goulet, Edison, or other compatible nibs.

  • Good ink flow – Keeps up with fast writing and moderate pressure.

  • Slight springiness – Not a flex nib, but gives line variation with pressure.

  • Snap-cap & postable – Secure fit and options for those who prefer posting.

  • Includes converter – Uncommon at this price point.

Cons:

  • Clip is very stiff – May be difficult to use on pockets.

  • Only medium nib included – Limited factory nib options (though swappable).

  • Some hard starts – May need minor tuning or nib replacement for picky writers.

  • Heavy for some users – Especially when posted.

  • No box-  It's not at all uncommon for less expensive pens like the Platinum Preppy, and Pilot Varsity to sell without a box. Some retailers carrying the X750 choose to sell it with a box, it's up to each retailer if they choose to do so.

  • Plastic converter is basic – Functional, but lower capacity than premium options.

 Writing Experience:

  • Writes smoothly with good ink flow.

  • Slightly springy steel nib adds character to handwriting.

  • Performs better than expected for a pen in this price range.

 Final Thoughts:

The Jinhao X750 punches way above its weight class. While it won’t replace your high-end pens, it’s a fantastic addition for anyone wanting to explore fountain pens without breaking the bank—and a great tinkerer's pen thanks to its nib-swapping flexibility.

I've also compiled a list of other pens we carry as an alternatives if you want to try them out

Pilot Metropolitan – Similar finish, thinner/lighter, finer nib (Japanese sizing).

Jinhao X450 – Heavier sibling with triangular grip.

Noodler’s Ahab – Lighter, flex nib, similar size.
