an all-purpose brown September 16, 2014

Yama-guri has a lovely golden brown tone, and unlike many browns, can be used unobtrusively for many uses.

New favorite ink? September 6, 2014
Reviewer: Peter Buergin-Witt from Sturgeon Bay, WI United States
This is one of the most fascinating inks I've used so far!  I'm not sure yet, most likely it's going to be a tie - but for plain writing, this is a serious contender for becoming my favorite ink, together or over R&K 'Sepia'.  Both inks are grey with brown overtones, Iroshizuku Yama -guri leaning clearly more towards a warm, smoky-brown tone. The precise color is hard to name: it seems to vary with lighting, amount of ink laid down, and paper quality. Yama-guri shades very well, especially in a soft nib like many Pilot 14 K's, flows freely (clearly a 'wet' ink) and has good lubricity.  The subtle, finely nuanced, serene character of this ink makes it a great choice for journal writing or other writing where the mood should arise from the written word rather than the ink.  A interesting quality is that the ink first goes down with a subtle purple hue, then changes to a brownish grey... quite fascinating to watch!

I love this ink -- rich almost black brown color and has excellent flow in my pen.

Compelling! May 20, 2014
Reviewer: Jeremy Cucco from federal way, WA United States
I love this ink.  Yama-guri is such a compelling ink that screams class.  While I wouldn't normally associate brown inks with all-purpose writers, this most definitely is.  It has all the formality you would want for official correspondence despite having a bit of whimsy reminiscent of resting in a hammock under an old oak tree.  The color has not-so-subtle hints of bronze and chocolate but is decidedly chestnut in tone.  It's a very smooth, wet ink that happily works in a medium German nib and would undoubtedly work in much finer nibs as well.

Antique March 10, 2014
Reviewer: Bret from Loveland, CO United States
I could have sworn another reviewer mentioned how this ink has a nice antique look to it once it dries. Can't find that review. Oh well...

With an ex-fine nib, it lays down a nice dark brown line and dries to a dark grey-brown. As other have written: very professional looking. In an Ahab, it shades wonderfully.
