Love it!! February 14, 2013
Reviewer: Jennifer Zambernard from Silver Spring, MD United States
This pen has a super nib.  If you like some spring in your nib you will love this pen.  The nib is on the wet side and very responsive.  I purchased the medium nib and could not be more happy!

Good writer, smaller than expected February 11, 2013
Reviewer: David Hendricks from Los Angeles, CA United States
Overall a good pen but at this price point I prefer the Lamy 2000 or even the Franklin-Christoph 02. Based on reviews I guess I was a little underwhelmed after actually getting to experience it for myself.

As far as size, it was smaller than I expected. I went through the process of using the Pen Plaza (a fantastic resource) and thought that in comparison to the Lamy Safari it would be of sufficient size unposted but it is a little on the small side. I would say I have average sized hands. Posted, the pen is much more manageable but these days I have been moving away from posting so it comes up a little short. In thinking about it, it is not so much about the body but the nib size, this pen would benefit from a beefed up nib to give added extension from the section. The smaller nib makes it seems cramped near the page if you hold the pen on the section.

All in all a good pen, a great writer. Nothing negative about the pen just personal preference.

M nib, filled w/ yama-budo.

Fine Writing Pen December 10, 2012
Reviewer: James McConnel from Fairfax, VA United States
I have two of the Pilot Custom 74 Fountain Pens in medium. I have been a fan of Pilot pens for years and found these pens to be up to par with the Custom 823s and Vanishing Points I own.

I keep the pens scrupulously clean between ink changes and have never had problems with flow or bleeding.  I even took the two pens on a five week photography jaunt on the Colorado Plateau  in March 2012 to maintain a journal. I had no problems with the pens .

These pens write well. I have Sailor, Nakaya, and Platinum pens and these Pilot pens can hold their own in for performance.

I do find the pens are small for my hands, because  I don't like posting pens (it marks the barrel). They carry a nice ink supply, but cleaning the CON-70 converter is best done with a syringe you can buy from Goulet.

I like the clear bodies. I am pleased that Goulet continues to carry them and day are not just a passing fancy.

A pen of contradictions August 8, 2012
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Libby
I bought this last year.  This was before I learned of the Goulet Pen Co. (which has sold me every piece of writing equipment I've purchased since that time).  Mine is the clear demonstrator, with a medium nib.  It was love at first sight.

The beauty and elegance of the pen were beyond my powers of resistance.  The pen's size and shape are, IMO, perfect.  I love the colored yet translucent caps, and the clip is the handsomest of any pen made today, in my view.

After inking up the pen, I loved it even more.  The nib is soft and smooth, but most importantly for me, allowed for excellent line variation.  This pen's ability as a writer seemed to equal its aesthetics!

After three months of use, however, it developed terrible ink flow problems and basically stopped working.  I sent it to Pilot, where the nib was replaced.  It worked well once again, but not for long.

I'm writing this review in the hope that Pilot might take steps to save this otherwise exceptional pen!

Fantastic pen June 29, 2012
Reviewer: Akustyk from Saint Paul, MN United States
In my experience, a very, very smooth writer. The nib has quite a bit of spring to it. With J. Herbin Bleu Pervenche it brings out shading beautifully, if you like this sort of look. The construction feels solid, but don't expect a very heavy pen. The filling mechanism is very easy to use and holds a lot of ink.

The best part of this pen is the nib. I've seen so many pens that have beautiful looks but their nibs leave a lot to be desired. This pen, on the other hand, prioritizes the nib, which is how it should be. The nib is very smooth, and the feed works perfectly, making a wet line.

I have another one of these pens (black, made for the Japanese market), and  I think it is a tiny bit lighter, it came with a simpler filling mechanism, and in a slightly different box. Both pens are fantastic.
