Excellent ink, the free pen though... meh July 29, 2014
Reviewer: Paul K from Portland, OR United States
I am assuming most people aren't buying this product for the free pen. I thought it would be a fun freebie. Well I put it in my bag and the thing broke and now my bag is a little more "heart of darkness-y." That wouldn't be a problem for most inks, but this ink is amazing. It is so black and so permanent that I don't think it will ever come out! Which is perfect for the intended use, writing up notes in my lab notebook with my preferred pen. This ink is my go-to black ink, hands down. I've tried others, and this is my favorite.

An intense and functional black July 29, 2014
Reviewer: Zachary Smith from Hanahan, SC United States
I love thick black inks. I want the words that I write in black to look like the absence of light organized into language. This ink gives me that intense black with no compromise. The included Platinum Preppy also works very well and has a nice fine nib. I have been getting a tiny amount of feathering and bleed-through with my wetter nibs on certain paper, but that is to be expected. Also, the ink is incredibly waterproof. I had a small pocket notebook that fell out of my pocket into a puddle. the notebook is unusable  now, but every note i made was completely legible. This is really a fantastic package deal.

truly one of the darkest black inks you can get July 21, 2014
Reviewer: Karl Doblinger from Weston, FL United States
As I am apparently obsessed with black inks (bottles of: Noodler's Black, Aurora Black, Sailor Jentle Black, Noodler's Black Eel, Platinum Carbon Black and Sailor Doyou) and about another 15-20 samples, Heart of Darkness compares really well. Good flow, very little feathering and decent dry times.

An excellent ink. July 5, 2014
Reviewer: Percy Bjorklund from Sweden
This is a very, very good black ink. Better than Noodler's Black? Nope, IMO it isn't, not as an allround, everyday working ink.
So what's the point? Well, they sort of trade some properties. HoD is somewhat blacker, and has a colder tone of blackness. It also stands up to rubbing better, without smearing. I would assume this is a better ink for artists, who'd want to erase pencil lines for instance.
But it attacks the paper more aggressively, with some bleed and feathering, so it's slightly less wellbehaved.
Otherwise, it's a trademark 'bulletproof' ink. Water proof and scores an easy AA, on my 10-day accelerated fading test, on a scale of AA, A, B, C. This test tries to estimate long-term durability by testing light-fastness.

The perfect black? June 27, 2014
Reviewer: Joel Wilson from Coalgate, OK United States
I had to come back and edit this review.  I spoke poorly of the bottle because I could not get a TWSBI Vac 700 down into it.  Later I decided to use the eye dropper and load up the free platinum preppy pen for fun.  For a cheap pen, this thing has a nice glassy slick nib.  It writes flawlessly.  For mass writing this is a champion!  I'm quickly collecting a massive assortment of ink and pens but I always come back to this cheapo freebie pen and bottle.  Probably my favorite ink of all the inks I've tried.  It works every time i put the nib on paper "period"
