Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-guri - Wild Chestnut (50ml Bottle)

50ml bottle of Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-guri fountain pen ink. Loosely translated to Wild Chestnut, this ink is a brown color similar to the image of a ripe, fallen chestnut shell during the longing season of autumn.

Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-guri - Wild Chestnut (50ml Bottle) is rated 4.8529 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wild Chestnut,....not quite as expected. When I originally compared the swabs between my most favourite brown, the Iroshizuku Tsukushi & Yama-guri, it seemed to me that Yama-guri was a darker shade of brown. After I finished the sample vial of "Wild Chestnut" I still wanted the full bottle,.... even though in real life, this ink is not much darker than the Tsukushi. When Yama-guri dries, it actually lightens up a touch & takes on a slight olive tone. Pleasant, but not what I expected. Both inks exhibit the well behaved characteristics of the Iroshizuku family of inks. When my Tsukushi bottle gets close to empty, I'll definitely want a new bottle. The jury is still out on the Yama-budo. Still, I highly recommend this brown.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yama-guri My New Black Dark brown with an ever so slight green under tint. It is without a doubt my favorite ink. I use it to sketch and to write. I use it at work and at home. It is in 5 of my pens right now and it is beautiful to me in every size nib. It is very well behaved on every paper except napkins. It cleans up very easily for a dark ink. And even if it didn't clean well - I'd use it anyway. If I could only have one ink this would be it. I wish it were more water resistant but that is its only flaw for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful. Sophisticated. (i.e., $$$) :) Yes, this ink is pricey, but it's definitely worth it (and Goulet Pens has great prices). I actually special-ordered a brown Metal Falcon by Pilot (which is amazing in itself), and I wanted a nice brown ink. This is my first experience with any of the Iroshizuku line. Flow is on par with my J. Herbin inks, which flow and write buttery smooth. Be mindful, though - the swatch on the site implied a lighter color than I see in everyday use. It's nowhere near as dark as Perle Noir, but still much darker than I expected. I love it - it almost looks like a time-shaded black ink

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compelling! I love this ink. Yama-guri is such a compelling ink that screams class. While I wouldn't normally associate brown inks with all-purpose writers, this most definitely is. It has all the formality you would want for official correspondence despite having a bit of whimsy reminiscent of resting in a hammock under an old oak tree. The color has not-so-subtle hints of bronze and chocolate but is decidedly chestnut in tone. It's a very smooth, wet ink that happily works in a medium German nib and would undoubtedly work in much finer nibs as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Dark Brown This ink is great. The color is a nice, dark brown that I often use in lieu of black ink. It's quite professional looking, but it maintains individuality. As with the other Iroshizuku inks I've used, the stuff is very well behaved and lubricates more than adequately. No nib creep to speak of.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Remarkable A beautiful, but subtle ink that I have adopted for correspondence. I especially like how it appears on ivory paper. It appears darker in fine nibs, but shows a soft stately character in a broad cursive italic nib.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful ink Another hit... these inks are well worth the cost. Don't let that prohibit you from trying them. Yama-guri is now my go to correspondence ink. I write all my letters with it and it looks fantastic on Rhodia's R series cream colored paper. WOW!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Antique I could have sworn another reviewer mentioned how this ink has a nice antique look to it once it dries. Can't find that review. Oh well... With an ex-fine nib, it lays down a nice dark brown line and dries to a dark grey-brown. As other have written: very professional looking. In an Ahab, it shades wonderfully.
