Noodler's Baystate Blue (3oz Bottle)
$12.50
Product Code N19048
In Stock, Usually Ships in 1 to 2 Business Days
3oz (90ml) bottle of Noodler's Baystate Blue fountain pen ink. The Noodler's Baystate inks are slightly different formulas than conventional fountain pen inks. They are designed to be more vibrant than other inks and have a slightly basic pH-level, and as a result they are prone to staining and should not be mixed with other non-Baystate inks. If staining should occur, a solution of 10% household bleach and 90% distilled water will clean it up. If you have any particularly rare or valuable pens, you may want to avoid using Baystate inks in them. Bottle may come in plastic or glass - stock is varied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent blue, but has its quirks. Baystate Blue is a fantasticly bright, saturated blue that can't be mixed with any ink other than the other two "Baystate" inks. It is prone to stain, but stains can be removed from hands and sinks with regular 91% rubbing alcohol. We have a cultured marble sink and it's covered in BSB several times a week and there's not a blue mark on it. The ink can be diluted easily (and to the extreme¥I use a 2:11 dilution mixture in a flex pen to achieve a slightly more violet color and more shading), and flows well from every pen I've used it in. It pops off the page and has an almost iridescent violet tint from an angle in bright light. Sure, it has its quirks, but this is my go-to blue ink.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful blue, but a finicky ink This purchase was made after seeing a writing sample of this ink on a packing slip. I purchased the ink hoping to use it as my everyday ink at work, but it failed as my holy grail. I love the brilliant blue color but on the lower quality papers used at work it feathers, bleeds through and turns a fine point nib into a medium line. This is still a keeper for me but it will only be used for letter writing on finer papers (I adore it on 100% cotton white paper). On with my search for an ink that behaves well in my work environment. Goulet Pens has been been a great partner in that search. Awesome service and selection, and I have only now discovered the ink samples...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this ink! Realizing that this is a monoline ink and I can't see any shading to speak of, I love this ink - with one caveat. It's a rather poorly behaved ink, whether in a TWSBI M or Lamy EF. It MUST be diluted before using, or you will have feathering like nothing else. The empty sample vials from this website are perfect. About 2/3 ink, the rest filtered or distilled water. You get 98% of the colour intensity, and almost no feathering. I love this ink and this colour and like that I am supporting a small New England company (I'm from NH), but it does need some extra work. I don't mind the extra work, so it's getting 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, but messy, ink I received my order yesterday and the Noodler's inks in the package were the first things I attacked. I must say that I love this ink. I truly is a beautiful blue, but it IS messy. Nathan fills all of his inks to the very top (which is a GREAT thing) but Baystate blue is such a pigmented color that it tends to get everywhere and it's hard to get off your skin. I used soap, products with bleach and acetone ad while that got off most of the ink, I still have blue splotches on my hands and a few blue stained fingers. That isn't enough to stop me from using this wonderful blue ink.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice contrast-y blue; difficult; overrated Bittersweet contrast that is very striking yet almost hurts my eyes against bright white paper. Hard to work with. Be ready to fill carfully or just have ink on your hands for 24 hours. I think it's over-rated and it does not perform like Nathan's short feature film dedicated to the color. There is no instant drying on cheap copy paper, certainly there is a bit of feathering, and there is definitely bleed through (granted on cheaper paper). I only bring this up because Nathan specifically tests it on cheap paper. A better camera might show this. No one can see feathering from that far away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from YOU WONT FIND ANOTHER VIBRANT BLUE LIKE THIS When you see this ink for the first time on paper, you just say Wow! Its that impressive and nothing else that I have seen comes close to it. One thing to be mindful of is it will stain a clear demonstrator pen slightly. So if you put it in a demonstrator, you might considering keeping this ink only in that pen. Othewise, you will need to use bleach to get rid of the blue hue. That aside, this is a fantastic ink, extremely vibrant, dries quick, is waterproof and gets lots of wows from many that see it. If you pay a few dollars more for the ink dropper bottle, it also comes with a Noodlers flex fountain pen that you can try it in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant Blue!! This is probably the most beautiful blue ink I have ever seen. I have a dedicated converter for this ink as it is prone to staining. I haven't had my FP fail due to this ink and am currently using it in the Edison Nouveau Premiere Cobalt. I am careful to rinse the nib and converter after every third fill just as a precaution. I don't think I could use any other blue ink after this. If you are serious about trying this ink, get a couple of sample vials first. Make sure you get enough to fill a pen at least three times. This is enough to give you an idea of how this ink behaves.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from the infamous blue Pros: I love the rich striking cobalt blue and the fact that the colour stays true on the paper. No fading. Flows really well... initially... on my LE Pelikan M800 Cons: left the pELIKAN pen for 1 day and used it the next. The ink ran dry after a little while and would't start. That was irritating. I had made sure the pen was clean before so mixing inks wasnt an issue. Frankly, I really like this blue. I will proably buy a Noodler's Ahab or the new Konrad for it. it probably needs to be used daily or else there is a chance of it drying out. I dont have this problem with other noodler inks thus far
