R&K Salix April 6, 2013
Reviewer: Rick Parker from Yarralumla, ACT Australia
Bought this to compare to ESSRI. Much the same properties but stays blue after oxidation. Still very much like ESSRI and will alternate between the two as a business note taking ink until I decide.

Good blue/black February 10, 2013
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Somewhere, ND
Pretty well behaved blue-black.  Dries a bit too black for what I need, but very controlled and stays put on the page without much feathering.  Good performance even on "lowest bidder" copy paper.

To the reviewer from New Brunswick, while I'm not sure if growths from willow trees have been used to make Iron-Gall ink, galls (growths on trees caused by insects or other things) usually from oaks have been used to make the ink.  Combination of iron (Fe2+) and gallic acid (and related compounds) went into the ink.  So, in a way, it makes sense to name it for a tree.

A Penful of Dust January 29, 2013
Reviewer: Robert Matthews from Moncton, NB, Canada
Next to "shaded", my favourite quality in an ink is "dusty", and R&K Salix is a wonderfully dusty blue-black, heavy on the blue. It calls to mind some of the dustier J. Herbin inks such as Bleu Nuit.

It isn't completely waterproof — some of the ink will wash from the paper — but is sufficiently water-resistant that it's still completely legible after a dousing. The colour is conservative enough to make it an ideal ink for office use and correspondence, while still being visually interesting and out of the ordinary.

"Salix", in case you were wondering (I am always wondering about such things), is the Latin word for "willow", and is related to "salicylic acid", aka aspirin, which used to be derived from willow trees. I don't know why the ink is named after the tree, but life should have some mystery to it.

Great iron gall ink January 29, 2013
Reviewer: Art Navar from Bensenville, IL United States
This is a nice flowing iron gall. Love the color. I use it in a stub nibbed pen and it shades a bit and is fairly quick drying.

Perfect January 2, 2013
Reviewer: akustyk from Saint Paul, MN United States
Just what I've been looking for: a gorgeous blue-black, an awesome shader, permanent, and not too dry, but restrained enough for my gusher pens.
