The Konrad flex pen was introduced in early 2012 - it is smaller than the Ahab, but larger than the Nib Creaper. It features a steel flexible #6 nib and a twist piston mechanism with a blind cap. The Konrad is made of a celluloid derivative and is technically biodegradable and formed from a "renewable resource".

The Noodler's flex pens were designed for the hands-on tinkerer - they are made to be taken apart and adjusted. The nib and feed pull right out and can be adjusted for optimal performance. Don't be afraid to get a little ink on your fingers while you learn how to use this pen. We recommend watching our video (below) to see how heat-setting the nib/feed can help improve flow issues.

As a simple rule of thumb for writing with a flex pen, just apply slight pressure on your downstrokes, which will spread the tines and increase the line width, achieving that optimal line variation. Make sure to go slowly so that the ink can keep up with your writing. As with any flex pen, it just takes practice!

Due to the residual machining oils used when cutting the feeds for these pens, we highly encourage you to give the pen a good flush before use. We recommend any of the following options: distilled water, water with a touch of dish soap, a pre-packaged pen flush, or a solution of 10% clear ammonia to water. This should resolve most ink flow issues!

The Konrad is a great pen.  not quite as large as an Ahab, but more hand filling than the creaper.  this particular design has a great finish and texture.  The flex nib is wonderful if you remember to watch your hand pressure.

Call me crazy, but I like the smell... May 9, 2014
Reviewer: Dale Li from Boulder, CO United States
I have a lot of Noodler's pens now.  The first one I got smelled like butt for sure and I quickly tried to soak it in soapy water in the hopes it would go away.  The initial stink is the killer straight out of the box and then it goes away after a couple weeks.

But now I like the smell. It's like a "Funky Blueberry" to me. It's a homey smell that makes me smile. I associate it with all the fun of being a fountain pen user.  I like to hold it right under my nose like a cigar and take a bit whiff while I'm thinking about what to write next. It's the same reason why some people love lamb--it smells nasty but to them it's like being home on the farm!

Besides the smell of course, this pen has a built-in piston! What a deal. I followed sbrebrown's advice and installed a Brause Rose nib in this one--needed some pliars to shape that nib, but it works awesome!!! Now I have Uber Flex!!!

having trouble February 24, 2014
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from La Mirada, CA United States
I was really excited at first when i got the ink to flow smooth. Only downfall is that my tip had bent. I had attempted to carefully fix it but now the flow is horrible. I am looking for a replacement tip but until then its losing out to the sailor candy fountain pen in terms of favorite. probably won't be buying another one either...
