The Nib Creaper (also known as the "Standard Flex Pen") was the first fountain pen produced by Noodler's, introduced in 2010, and is Noodler's smallest and slimmest fountain pen. It features a steel flexible #2 nib and a twist piston mechanism. A small ink window shows how much ink is left in your pen. These pens are made from a celluloid derivative.

The Noodler’s flex pens were designed for the hands-on tinkerer - they are made to be taken apart and adjusted. The nib and feed pull right out and can be adjusted for optimal performance. Don’t be afraid to get a little ink on your fingers while you learn how to use this pen.

As a simple rule of thumb for writing with a flex pen, just apply slight pressure on your downstrokes, which will spread the tines and increase the line width, achieving that optimal line variation. Make sure to go slowly so that the ink can keep up with your writing. As with any flex pen, it just takes practice!

Due to the residual machining oils used when cutting the feeds for these pens, we highly encourage you to give the pen a good flush before use. We recommend any of the following options: distilled water, water with a touch of dish soap, a pre-packaged pen flush, or a solution of 10% clear ammonia to water. This should resolve most ink flow issues!

I have had this pen for a while now and while I like the way it flows, its too small for me to draw with. That said its a fantastic writing pen so I filled it with Bad Blue Heron and its my every day pen. I ordered an Ahab to draw with

Flex Pens! January 26, 2013
Reviewer: Joanna Suen from Philadelphia, PA United States
The order came exactly when promised, with helpful notification emails that put your mind to rest.

I flushed the pen as suggested, but either I didn't calibrate the nib & feed properly, or there's some industrial oil left because it dries out quickly on the feed and has minor flow issues.

Also should be worth mentioning, very flex-y! ; but probably not as easy to flex as you think.

fantastic Value November 26, 2012
Reviewer: Tim from glebe, NSW Australia
I bought a cobalt and a Dec 25th. These pens are amazing value and they have both worked perfectly. The nibs could be a bit more flexy for my taste but they are a pleasure to use...

Bad luck so far. Poor flow even with adjustments June 21, 2012
Reviewer: AR from Philadelphia, PA United States
I have had bad luck with this pen so far. I wish Goulet Pen Co. would bring back the Noodler's standard flex because frankly they're the best fountain pens I have in my small and narrow "collection." That said, this pen has a friction fit feed and nib system that allows your to tweak the flow and flex. I keep getting poor flows. I first tried Baystate Blue and moved to Noodler's Blue without better luck. I'm not a fan of the flex in general, but I don't write in script. Anyway, props for the ability to completely disassemble this pen and clean it thoroughly- see Nathan's video.

A pen for pen lovers! March 23, 2012
Reviewer: Brent Eagles from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador
Yes, I had to flush/clean it like Brian describes. Yes, I had to do a lot of tweaking to get it where I liked it. Now it is fantastic. A doodler's delight and if you can dial in the nib, a good go-to writer. Great for learning about feeds, flow rates and nib behavior. Caution: I had some old Solv-X era Parker Quink that I put in the pen last night. I was thinking that the ink might take care of any remaining residue. This morning I realized that Solv-X and Noodler's might not mix. I flushed it really well and filled it with Noodler's Black instead. So far no signs of damage, but I would take Nathan's words of caution with respect to solvents to heart for this (and any other favored pen for that matter). I would give it 5, but I like the Ahab a bit better in this price range.
