Limited edition 50ml bottle of Rouge Hematite (scarlet) ink, released in 2010 in celebration of J. Herbin's 340th anniversary. Rouge translates to red, and Hematite is an iron ore that when pulverized into a powder, can be used as red pigment. With a dark red color and earthy tone, it is a reminder of the historic color of the Herbin logo and the sealing wax used by the members of the royal courts. This rich deep dye ink will bring brightness and majesty to all your writing.

Rich, warm red January 18, 2012
Reviewer: Beverly from San Diego, CA, United States
Let me be just another reviewer to give this delicious ink a 5-star rating! The color is a warm, lustrous red with golden overtones (which appears to be greenish shimmer on close inspection). From a distance the color is exactly that of freshly drawn blood (not that that's my thing, but I must admit fresh blood is an amazing color!). This ink also behaves well in every pen that I've used it in and I've not experienced feathering nor bleedthrough, even on the lower quality paper I use at work. It looks great on white & cream colored papers. It is my go-to red at work and at home. The bottle is simply stunning and it conjures the olden days. I love everything about this ink!

Nice red January 1, 2012
Reviewer: tripledox from San Luis Obispo, CA United States
This is a nice flowing ink which seemed to tend towards orange on the paper & cards I wrote this Christmas. In my Rhodia notebook it was actually very similar to Rouge Opera. The gold flecks weren't evident at all until I accidently started to address a red envelope. The ink disappeared on the red paper but faint gold lettering remained, kinda cool but not too useful. Might have been more obvious with a broader nib or in a flex pen? Still a nice ink!

Wonderful Ink December 24, 2011
Reviewer: Tony Reynolds from Brier, WA United States
I would have NEVER thought that I would like a red ink for my journal writing, but the 1670 ink by J. Herbin is a wonderful, smooth, two-tone medium to dark red that looks great on the paper and imparts a certain mystery and class to what I write. One caveat is that this ink has very fine gold particles in suspension, so you will want to gently shake the bottle well before filling your pen. I use a syringe. Highly recommended. I'll never use another red. Goulet's service is beyond wondwerful, with a handwritten thank you note on each packing slip. Very classy.

Great for Christmas cards December 22, 2011
Reviewer: Jim B. from Alexandria, VA United States
A nice red with very good shading and hints of gold within the shading. I neglected to shake the bottle when first inking up and got a more brownish color that was dry and clogged my Lamy Safari. I flushed the pen, shook the bottle, re-inked, and viola! I works fine. A nice, festive looking red. Not for everyday, but big and bright.
