Limited edition 50ml bottle of Rouge Hematite (scarlet) ink, released in 2010 in celebration of J. Herbin's 340th anniversary. Rouge translates to red, and Hematite is an iron ore that when pulverized into a powder, can be used as red pigment. With a dark red color and earthy tone, it is a reminder of the historic color of the Herbin logo and the sealing wax used by the members of the royal courts. This rich deep dye ink will bring brightness and majesty to all your writing.

Still a great ink April 10, 2014
Reviewer: Michael from Broomfield, CO United States
Everyone note: it's been reformulated!  Herbin tamed it down to try and make it less likely to damage pens.  Less gold; less sheen.

That said, it's still a great ink.  The red alone is a good red, but it still will have a sheen -- just less of one -- if it goes on good and wet on the right paper.

Good Ink, not as gold as expected March 28, 2014
Reviewer: Andrew Lawler from East Greenwich, RI United States
Rouge Hematite is an ink known for its red-gold color, with a lot of ink comparisons showing a very nice golden color. Apparently this ink was reformulated in the past year or so and the color is much more red, with a golden sheen on wetter letters. The color is still amazing but just know that the color in the swab sample is likely from the old formulation.

This ink is beautiful, yes it is a little expensive, but there is no other ink like it.

Beautiful ink! February 18, 2014
Reviewer: Raymond Pelayo from San Francisco, CA United States
For the record I love "shady" inks, and J. Herbin Rouge Hematite 1670 Anniversary Ink gets a gold medal for that. It lays down wet as a bright red but dries to a deeper shade of red with brown tones. Use with better to be rewarded with the incredible shift in color and shade. If you're a "shady" ink lover then treat yourself and buy a bottle of this stuff. You won't regret it.
