The Konrad flex pen was introduced in early 2012 - it is smaller than the Ahab, but larger than the Nib Creaper. It features a steel flexible #6 nib and a twist piston mechanism with a blind cap. The Konrad is made of a celluloid derivative and is technically biodegradable and formed from a "renewable resource".

The Noodler's flex pens were designed for the hands-on tinkerer - they are made to be taken apart and adjusted. The nib and feed pull right out and can be adjusted for optimal performance. Don't be afraid to get a little ink on your fingers while you learn how to use this pen. We recommend watching our video (below) to see how heat-setting the nib/feed can help improve flow issues.

As a simple rule of thumb for writing with a flex pen, just apply slight pressure on your downstrokes, which will spread the tines and increase the line width, achieving that optimal line variation. Make sure to go slowly so that the ink can keep up with your writing. As with any flex pen, it just takes practice!

Due to the residual machining oils used when cutting the feeds for these pens, we highly encourage you to give the pen a good flush before use. We recommend any of the following options: distilled water, water with a touch of dish soap, a pre-packaged pen flush, or a solution of 10% clear ammonia to water. This should resolve most ink flow issues!

Karakatoa and El Lawrence perfect match August 29, 2014
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Southeastern CT
Bought a number of Noodler's Inks here and a Konrad Krakatoa and Ahab.  Put the El Lawrence in the Krakatoa and haven't changed it since.  The color of ink and of pen are perfect together, and I can write a particularly fine line with these two.  My daily journal is a Moleskine, and I use this pen!  (Rabaul Red also works in there beautifully, as does 54th MA in my Waterman Laureat). This Konrad wrote perfectly out of the box, unlike the other one I have, and I am eagerly awaiting restocking to get another. But to my surprise, the Krakatoa & El Lawrence are perfect together and my always-loaded pen.  And I had thought I wanted more color...

Reviewer: Daniele Pietravalle from Rome, Lazio Italy
I'm not an expert but I found this fountain pen very nice to use. I found some problems at the beginning to set nib but now, after 3 weeks works fine and it's a pleasure write with this 20$ pen.
(sorry for my english :) )

You can hardly see through it was advertized as a black demonstrator.  I use this pen everyday for drawing...will be buying more Konrad's just not this particular color.  I like the Konrad and will be buying more of them.

Think I will stick with the clear domonstrator models.

Krakatoa Black Demonstrator YIKES!!! July 22, 2014
Reviewer: Greg Papa from Massapequa, NY United States
Got a pen that I did not want.  Goulet Pen Company wanted shipping both ways to send out the correct one.  Doesn't make sense on a $20.00 pen.  I am moving on to Amazon for my pen and paper supplies. Love my other Konrads with flex nibs!

Wetter than expected February 28, 2014
Reviewer: Dennis Fenrick from Seven Persons, AB Canada
I've watched the noodler's videos and I think I have an idea of how to install the feed and nib, but it still seems to write a little too wet.   Other reviews show that if you flex too much or al little too fast you will get some 'railroading'.   Despite my best effort to adjust things properly, I get the opposite problem... I get blobs of ink.

I'll have to do a bit more research and play some more, but so far, I'm reluctant to use this pen for anything more than just playing around.... at least until I get the flow issue sorted out.
