Alternative Views:

The Ahab flex pen was introduced in late 2011 and is currently Noodler's largest and most popular fountain pen. It features a steel flexible #6 nib and a slide piston mechanism. If you'd like, you can even remove the piston mechanism and use the pen as an eyedropper for a massive 6ml ink capacity. The Ahab is made of a celluloid derivative and is technically biodegradable and formed from a "renewable resource".

The Noodler’s flex pens were designed for the hands-on tinkerer - they are made to be taken apart and adjusted. The nib and feed pull right out and can be adjusted for optimal performance. Don’t be afraid to get a little ink on your fingers while you learn how to use this pen.

As a simple rule of thumb for writing with a flex pen, just apply slight pressure on your downstrokes, which will spread the tines and increase the line width, achieving that optimal line variation. Make sure to go slowly so that the ink can keep up with your writing. As with any flex pen, it just takes practice!

Due to the residual machining oils used when cutting the feeds for these pens, we highly encourage you to give the pen a good flush before use. We recommend any of the following options: distilled water, water with a touch of dish soap, a pre-packaged pen flush, or a solution of 10% clear ammonia to water. This should resolve most ink flow issues!

Noodler's Creaper's Cobalt Demo April 7, 2013
Reviewer: Ryan from Lynchburg, VA
I think this is the pen in the Goulet #6 Nib collection photos, as that pen is blue and a bit translucent.

Once it arrived, quite quickly shipped, the blue is a bit deeper blue than I hoped, but the photos on the pen's page do not really misrepresent it. I think I just prefer the glossy Noodler's pens.

Even so, the Ahab is my favorite Noodler's pen and I am happy to have it in my collection and I swapped nibs to the Goulet #6 1.1mm Stub, which is also excellent!

Noodler's Ahab Flex - Not! February 19, 2013
Reviewer: Inkwave from Lee, NH
I found that this pen does not really flex unless I use way more pressure than I am accustomed to use. It runs very wet. It does not start all the time; in fact, I have found, just as in the video, that I can be writing along and it goes dry. I cleaned it and stuck in the drawer. Writing with a flex pen should be natural, and with this pen you must be very focused on the act of writing, not /what/ you are writing. Were it not for the construction details, it would warrant a zer0. I shouldn't have to toss a brand new pen in the drawer. Watch the video closely, folks.

Love This Pen! October 15, 2012
Reviewer: Rhonda from Sacramento, CA United States
I have small hands, but I love the heft of the Ahab and the amount of ink it holds.  I bought a second one just for my Noodler's Luxury Blue ink and it's a match made in heaven.  The deep blue color of both ink and pen is very rich and classy.

Nice! October 12, 2012
Reviewer: Duane Galensky from Beallsville, PA United States
I like this pen better than the Konrad personally.   The Konrad was nothing but problems from leaking at the threads because of voids in the mold to the piston knob threads pulling out and stripping.   The Ahab is solid and hefty, and while not as elegant in design, in its simplicity serves its intended purpose well.   The nib and feed are so easily removed for adjustments and cleaning.  This is a great deal for using inks like Baystate Blue that you'd not hazard in a more expensive pen.
