Visconti Traveling Inkwell

Fill your pens on the go with ease with this Visconti Traveling Inkwell (also commonly called the Traveling Ink Pot). You can carry 5.5ml of ink with you inside this durable inkwell for refilling a wide variety of pen sizes and filling mechanisms, cleanly and with a full filling every time. It holds enough ink to get you 5.5 fillings of a Lamy Safari, or 3.5 fillings of a Visconti Homo Sapiens (full size) or Mont Blanc 149.

We've tested a variety of pens and found that anything with a grip that has a diameter at the end from around 9.2mm-13.2mm will fit in this inkwell. That means anything from a Pilot Metropolitan on up to a Mont Blanc 149.

You can use just about any filling mechanism in this inkwell, too. Converter, piston, crescent, aerometric, lever, vacuum/power filler, you name it. The best part is, you get a full filling every time, no matter which filling mechanism you're using.

Here's how you prepare the Visconti Traveling Inkwell:

1.  Remove the Inkwell cap by pulling straight out; it's friction-fit.
2.  Fill the Inkwell with your desired ink up to the marked line using the supplied eyedropper, an ink syringe, or any other similar device.
3.  Push the cap back into place and transport as needed.

Here's how you use the Visconti Traveling Inkwell to fill your pen:

1.  With the Inkwell standing straight up, uncap it by pulling the cap straight out (it's friction fit).
2.  Insert the nib and grip of your pen into the Inkwell until it's firmly seated in place.
3.  Turn the pen and Inkwell upside down together, slowly, ensuring it isn't going to leak. Your nib should end up pointing towards the sky and completely submerged in ink.
4.  Fill your pen as is required by its filling mechanism, a couple of times to ensure all air bubbles have been worked out and you have a maximum fill.
5.  Flip both the pen and Inkwell back over, so the pen is now on top and the Inkwell is below it.
6.  Pull out your pen and cap the Inkwell by pressing the cap into it firmly.
7.  Wipe off the grip of your pen using the supplied ink wick or a paper towel.

Note: The Visconti Traveling Inkwell no longer comes packaged in a Visconti clamshell pen case. The Inkwell now is packaged in a narrow box.

Visconti Traveling Inkwell is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works great, but ultimately works better than they look. The concept and execution is adequate, but does not rise to the level of a premium product that I would expect of Visconti. The leather box and packaging is extremely high quality, however the quality control of the aesthetics has been less consistent. Scratches and other imprints were found in the barrel, the screen printing was smeared, some of the plastic did not have a perfect fit and finish. Despite the poor aesthetics, the function of the ink well works really well. And because of its shape, it fits extremely well in a pen case. (The Customer Service Team was able to resolve my issues with the aesthetics)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vital Tool for Securely filling your pen I have been using this product for several weeks on a wide range of pen sizes. It allows me to fill fountain pens without any mess, see exactly how much ink is going into the pen and reliably fills even the most uncertain filling systems. Many fountains do not have ink Windows and you can never be sure they are filling properly. The travelling ink pot solves this problem with the cleanest simplest solution.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works perfectly! Great inkwell This is a very nice inkwell. The well itself is approximately 5" long and 5/8" in diameter, a little fatter and shorter than your average fountain pen, so a pretty good size for carrying around in a purse, backpack, or briefcase. It comes in an attractive presentation case, and includes instructions plus an eyedropper to aid in filling the inkwell. The presentation case is hard-sided and about the size of an eyeglasses case. It has three depressions in it, with the center elasticized depression fitting the inkwell, and the other two depressions capable of holding either the eyedropper or an average sized fountain pen, so you can quite easily carry the inkwell and the eyedropper and/or your pens all together and protected, should you desire to do that. The inkwell works as advertised. Following advice given by others here, and using a Pilot Metropolitan for testing (I haven't used my Parker or Waterman yet, but it appears that they will also fit) I practiced with water first. If you follow the instructions for filling, inserting the pen and then inverting the inkwell to fill, it works beautifully with no leakage and I actually get a much better fill with this inkwell than from a bottle, with no air bubbles in my converter...just ink. It holds enough ink to fill your pen several times and because you invert it to fill, covering the pen nib and feed completely, you'll get absolutely as much ink out of the well as possible before it's truly empty with not much unused ink. The well's lid seems to seal tightly even though it is a simple push-in lid. I worried if this would leak, but it does not seem to be a problem. I use many different colors of ink and love changing them up, so I hope this inkwell will wash out easily so inks don't become mixed. I haven't tried cleaning it yet so I can't speak to that. I love this product, but I do however have to dock it a star for two reasons: my case had a damaged spot in the finish on the bottom when I received it. Yes it is the bottom, and yes, it's just the case, but if I am paying $70 for an item of this type it should arrive in pristine condition. It is not worth sending back because the well itself is perfect, but yet this is still disappointing. Second, I think this item is overpriced for what it is. Goulet offers the pen at very competitive pricing to other retailers, so the issue is not with them, but honestly there is very little material here, it is a plastic tube with some fittings, and it doesn't look especially difficult to manufacture. It is too bad the price isn't more in the $40-$50 range because it really is an exceptionally well thought out and useful item that unfortunately I believe many people will pass on simply because of the high price. Overall though, good job Visconti.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This works great and has saved me many times, This inkwell is expensive, but it works very well and is easy to take with you. My Homo Sapiens doesn't have an ink window, so you will only run out of ink in important meetings. This pot has saved me many times and fills quickly and easily without any mess.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy Owner for over 15 Years I've owned and used these Traveling Inkpots for more than 15 years, as stated in the title. I've had more than one mishap with them, but if you watch the video embedded on this page, Brian covers just about all the things I've stumbled over in my own experience. I even use these to fill my Pelikan M1000. By far my favorite way to fill my pens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from cute little gizmo I bought this for the ease of transporting ink while traveling, and although I haven't taken a trip yet, I have experimented with water versus ink for the initial use and it works like a charm. Definitely beats carrying small vials or mini bottles around and trying to fill them without making a mess. This works great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product I purchased this product almost a month ago.The inkwell is very easy to use, but I highly recommend that you watch Dave's YouTube video on the inkwell and how to fill and use it first. It's because of the video that I discovered this inkwell and purchased 2. They've made filling my fountain pens so much easier and I wasn't covered in ink when I was done. It is very well made product. I would give it 5 stars if the price was more reasonable.
