TWSBI Diamond 580 Fountain Pen - Clear, Medium is rated 4.52 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from What a Let Down Beautiful looking pen and, when it works, writes with a nice thick line with a medium nib. Unfortunately, it will dry up at the drop of a hat and you have to manually push ink into the feed where it will work for about half a page and dry up. I sent out to California to TWSBI and they replaced the feeder and nib and now it will write for three quarters to a full page and then will dry out. Not a happy camper in the least. There is a good pen in the 580 somewhere but you never know if you are going to get one that works. There is obviously an issue here but I am done with sending out to California to get it worked on further. I am chalking this one up to a $50 lesson in "Buyer Beware".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Pen This is just a fun, beautiful pen that writes wonderfully. I purchased this as a first fountain pen for a friend for Christmas. I wasn't sure what to expect, really, but am I pleased with the result. The pen is good looking -- sort of steampunk, in a way, with a fountain pen sensibility, but a higher tech appearance. It feels great in the hand, with a good weight and size. The nib is smooth and gives just enough feedback to remind you that you're not in cheap pen territory anymore, even though, as fountain pens go, these aren't very expensive. I want, like, ten of these now. I'm hooked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great TWSBI pen Having started on my twsbi experience with a Vac 700 (in fine, broad and 1.1 mm italic), I feltthat the time was up to try the iconic, now and then maligned, but generally well-received, much loved Diamond 580. I wanted a special; demonstrator anyways for a lengthy writing project using Iroshizuku Murasaki Shikibu ink. Thanks once again to Goulet Pens for prompt shipping and great service! The pen: it feels lot more expensive than $50, with great attention to detail, a buttery smooth piston operation and a juicy, fairly smooth nib out-of-the-box. A few figure-eights on some fine mylar foil and it was smooth to perfection! Great pen, beautiful with the purple of the Murasaki Shikibu ink in the barrel!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful pen This is my first large TWSBI. The Diamond Mini has been my daily use TWSBI up to now. Not only the size of the 580 is different but also the way the pen writes. I find the 580 to be quite a wet writer when used with Pelikan Edelstein Topaz. The Mini is much drier. The 580 sits well in my medium-sized left hand so I do not need to post it. A fine writing instrument. If it writes so wet with all inks, then it is less useful for taking copious notes during a lecture or meeting (medium nib). Because of the overall writing experience I highly recommend this pen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best writing pen I own I had purchased a TWSBI Mini (B nib) not too long ago, and was a little disappointed with the ink flow. After a little work, it seemed to do fine. I also lost one of the two rubber rings along the way. But after reading reviews, I decided to try TWSBI again, this time a new 580 (M nib). Filled with my favorite Noodler's 54th Massachusetts ink, this pen is now my daily go-to pen. No leaks, no seeping, writes like a dream. And it holds a considerable amount of ink with each refill. I highly recommend the 580 as a great, moderately priced pen.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not impressed I was very excited to get this pen. After listening to all the hype and reading and watching many reviews, I was very excited. Although after receiving the pen and inking it up for the first time with Diamine Monaco Red the ink dripped from the nib when I held the pen nib down and the ink ran back into the pen when the pen was nib up. Even after replacing the medium nib with a broad nib (thinking that it was a nib problem) the same result happened. I was given contact with TWSBI and they wanted me to try to fix the pen myself and are making me pay for shipping to have their product sent to them for repairs or replacement. NOT impressed at all. Hoping to have the issue resolved soon. Thanks is in order to the Goulet pens, They have been tremendously helpful in the situation doing all they can to help me. One bad experience will not deviate me doing business with them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice second pen that became my primary pen I have a 10+ year old fountain I had been using every day for signatures and light notes. Figured with the good reviews and solid Goulet treatment I should take the plunge and see what all the fuss was about. At the price I figured it was no lose. It was way better than that. This very approachable pen is a real pleasure to use. I love the ease of filling, the ease of swapping nibs and the ease of maintenance (at least hypothetically b/c I have only had it about a month). The medium nib was a pleasure. Ordered an extra fine, fine and 1.5 stub and have been playing with them as well as with different inks. My old pen is now a disappointment and it was twice the price a decade ago. I was so impressed with TWSBI and their approach to the pen I ordered their diamond ink wells. Man what an absolute delight and no inky fingers! Between the kon-peki, this pen and my ink well I decided that my paper is insufficient. Who knew this pen would be so eye opening. Buying one for my son

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value for Money This is a very nice pen. It's not at all flimsy, is of a perfect calibre and weight for me personally. The ink capacity is excellent and it writes smoothly. The medium nib is a tad broad for me, so I'll be purchasing a replacement nib when available. I highly recommend this pen.
