Cooperation between Pineider and Carbon Dream led to the making of the first pen ever made in Forged Carbon.

The Pineider Mystery Filler is a new collection of limited edition fountain pens made in Florence, Italy, and designed by Dante Del Vecchio. Features Pineider’s flexible nib, a quill-shaped clip, and a “soft touch magnetic lock” cap system.  The filling mechanism is unique - push the button to extract the piston knob, turn the piston knob like any other piston filler to fill the pen with ink, then push the button again to lock it in place. This fountain pen has a smooth, soft rhodium-plated 14kt gold nib, which is flexible for ease of creating line width variation in your writing. Each pen also comes a Pineider Pen Filler for ease of filling.

The Pineider Mystery Filler Forged Carbon is limited to 888 pieces worldwide.

Assisted by the 10 engineers and technicians working with Carbon Dream, Pineider has produced the mould and perfected the technology required to adapt Forged Carbon for writing implements.

The Material

What is traditionally known as carbon fiber is in fact a fabric of thin fibers held together by a resin. It is lightweight and resistant but it has many limitations, especially if it is used for writing implements, for example a difficulty in creating complex curves or in creating different inner and outer profiles.

Forged carbon resolves these problems and many others experienced by carbon fiber. How does it do that? In two words: discontinuous fibers.

Forged composite material forgoes weaving, using casually arranged fibers mixed with resin instead, which it forms in a heated press at high pressure. The resulting compound is strong in every direction without the additional cost or complexity of having to add more than one layer of material the way you need to do with woven carbon fibers. If an indiscriminate composition of fibers gives you cause for concern regarding its reliability, relax: a large part of the work in developing Forged Composite material has involved
making sure that the end product is extremely strong. A further aesthetic bonus of casual fibers is that every end product is as unique as a snowflake.

Forged Carbon is used in top-of-the-range automobiles by the most famous manufacturers and is very much at home in Formula 1, while in other sectors it has been used by a celebrated watchmaker and also to manufacture golf clubs, on the other hand it was never used to produce writing instruments and the Great beauty is the first pen ever made in Forged Carbon.

Mystery Filler

Watch dials that do not indicate the time and where you have to guess the time from the position of the hour and minute hands are known as mysterious watches.

Pineider has enriched the plunger with a mechanism that allows the user to conceal the activation case back inside the barrel after filling the pen in order to prevent the filling system from opening accidentally.

The Quill Nib

Pineider's 14kt gold Quill Nib was designed in 2017, following the global writing trend for flexible nibs. It is endowed with an excellent memory.

The project envisaged a flexible nib for writing, rather than a calligraphic nib which has a somewhat different performance.

The pleasure of writing even for the beginner was our target, although one should not overdo things, remembering that a fountain pen is an extension of one's hand and requires no pressure when writing.

Twist Magnetic Lock

Pineider has invented a new pen closure system capable of combining the pleasure of the screw cap with the immediacy and security of the magnetic closure.

Everyone at one time or another has experienced a poorly closed pen slipping in their pocket and staining a costly suit. The problem with traditional closures is that they do not tell you when the pen is closed, so it is easy to distractedly put the pen in your pocket without screwing the cap tight. In Pineider's patent, the polarization of the magnets makes for a soft opening and and even more satisfying closure: you can open the pen slowly or you can watch it rotate on itself in your fingers while waiting to hear the pen closed signal.

The Clip: a goose quill

The Goose Quill has been the chief writing implement since the fall of the Roman Empire. The Goose Quill has written the civilization of the modern world from Magna Carta to the American Declaration of Independence. The Codex Gigas, the biggest book of the entire Middle Ages which took the monk who wrote it over 30 years to complete without making even the slightest mistake, was known as "The Devil's Bible" for that very reason. And esoteric sources associate the Quill with hope, balance and good fortune.

The Goose Quill, chosen by Pineider as its very own mark of distinction, is freely interpreted for each pen on which it is bestowed, playing the crucial role of supporting the pen and allowing it to show itself to best advantage. Thus the Pineider Quill will become classic, young, technological, futuristic and invariably compliant with the principles of “Human Design”.

We do our best to photograph the pens to show how they will appear in person, but due to the nature of the material there will be some variation in the pattern seen here. This adds an element of uniqueness to the pen, with no two patterns being exactly the same.
