Platinum 3776 Century Fountain Pen - Chartres Blue/Gold, Extra-Fine is rated 4.75 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous writing I received this pen as a gift, and what a wonderful gift at that. So far I've written with it for two days, ink continues to flow smoothly, the nib has none of the scratchiness I've found in some extra-fine points. And every so often sunlight strikes it just so and it does glow like a Chartres stain-glass window.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This pen rocks! Wow...it's amazing what you can get for under $200 from the Platinum Co. In the search for my first Japanese pen, I chose this one mainly because of the color, as well as the reputation of the nibs. Boy, once you've loaded up the converter, it's ready to go. As with extra-fine nibs, they can be scratchy, but the Platinum extra-fine is definitely pleasing to write with. There is still feedback, but the nib is springy and forgiving. No skips on from this pen! I'm definitely setting my sights on another Platinum pen!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Pen! The best part about this pen is the astonishingly fine, yet smooth, EF nib. But the gorgeous color of the pen body is a close second.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice but a little shorted than expect I am jazzed by the extra fine nib and the Chartres Blue finish. Barrel is a bit short for my large hands when unposted. posting seems to have scratched barrel with micro-scratchs. i can live with this, but the scratching was unexpected

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it. For $176, this is an amazing pen. The nib took a lot of tweaking; it wrote like a toothpick on arrival, and I had to spend one hour (a very cautious, nervous hour) working with it to get the tines spread and aligned. But now it writes like a dream. It's truly an EF point, even finer than the Pilot Prera F, but it doesn't scratch or hiccup: it lays down a gorgeously reliable and precise line. The blue of the body has to be seen in person; the photos don't do it justice. As often with Platinum pens, the decoration is a little over-fussy. The band at the base of the cap tries too hard to look fancy. A more understated design would be better. That's the only reason I don't give the pen five stars. UPDATE. After using a few months, I'm raising my rating, even though I have not come to like its looks much better than I did. But the 3776 nib is unbeatable. After a bit of use, it has become perfectly fine, perfectly smooth, slightly wet, absolutely reliable. I've now bought a second one

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great little pen Sometimes the older pens re the best and this holds true with the Platinum3776. I wanted an extra fine nib similar to the Bourgeone and the Chantres caught my eye. The pen is exactly what I would expect...nice weight and balance in the hand, be it posted or unposed; the nib is butter smooth, not scratchy, even on an extra fine which is a rarity. A nice quality pen that one should have in the collection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very smooth beautiful pen This is my 4th Platinum pen from the Century #3776 line. I like it very much. Each writes differently. Two pens have fine nibs (Nice Pur and Yamanaka edition) and two with extra-fine nibs--this Century Blue Chartres and the Century Bourgogne. There is quite a lot of difference in nibs even within one maker's line. The Burgogne EF nib was so fine, I could barely see the line. I used a brass sheet to open it slightly and it is buttery smooth and one of my all time favorites now. The Blue Chartres nib is buttery smooth too but writes more like a fine nib than an extra-fine. None of my Platinum pens scratches the paper but they have a very pleasurable "connection" with the paper that I like very much. They become smoother after 2 weeks of writing too. Pilot Namiki Blue ink is a perfect match for the Chartres Blue pen. I do find there is something in the resin of the cases that irritates my fingers when the pen is new. It feels oily. Washing the pen carefully where your fingers grasp it takes care of that. Platinum converters can be stiff. Use silicone to grease the threading mechanism (the metal cap comes off to expose the plastic screw mechanism).
