Pilot Vanishing Point Fountain Pen - Black Matte, Extra-Fine is rated 4.25 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Pen, Bad finish Have had the pen for over two years and it is on its third trip back to Pilot USA. The finish does not hold up. The matte finish goes away, the black scratches off to show brass etc. The nib and mechanism are great. I have other VP's and if I get another matte black body back from Namiki, I will try to trade it for a resin coated body.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Daily Driver - Amazing! This pen makes a fantastic daily driver. No hesitation or bad starts and always ready at a click. The clip holds nicely on a shirt pocket or on slacks pockets, jeans are a bit thick. I like it inked with Nooder's Baystate Blue but it does equally well with the pilot inks I've tried. It did run a bit drier than I like with Noodler's Bad Belted Kingfisher but I only gave that a short test. Great service from Goulet as always!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All-time favorite pen, with a few quirks. I will begin by admitting that this pen is, perhaps, not for everyone. The clip can be cumbersome for some, as it sits between your fingers when writing. However, I tend to write with the sort of forced correctness which results from years of "penmanship" practice in private school, so this is not an issue for me. However, if you have a more original way you tend to hold your pen when writing, I would suggest finding one to test before you make a decision. Additionally, if you use this pen daily and a bit carelessly, as I do, the matte black coating tends to wear off easily, revealing the metal beneath. This may also be bothersome for some. I personally enjoy the resulting rustic character from this everyday wear and tear, and do not find issue with it. It is, however, something to consider. If you think this would bother you, perhaps consider buying a VP with a different coating. All of that being said, I absolutely love this pen. I have had it for over almost two years now, and it has held up well. The inside "trap-door" protects your nib, leaving it unscathed even after considerable daily bumping, travel and use. It is, perhaps, not your typical fountain pen, but the convenience of the click mechanism is unmatched, and the click itself possesses a hearty, satisfying sound. It is sleek and possesses a metallic feel, giving it a satisfying weight which screams quality. Overall, I would say I love this pen for its convenient, minimalistic and decidedly unique nature. As for the extra fine nib itself, as is common with EF nibs, it is a bit scratchier then the F in the upstroke, especially. However, this feedback is rather minimal, and the fine lines are beautifully fine, and allow for the sort of very-small cursive letters inherent in my own habitual writing. If, however, you do not require a considerably japanese-fine nib, I would recommend the Fine nib, as it is still rather fine but lacks the minor feedback present in the EF. Happy Writing!
