Pilot Metropolitan Fountain Pen - Silver Plain, Medium is rated 4.875 out of 5 by 136.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing value A very impressive little pen, no doubt about it. I usually prime a new pen before using it (flushing it with water and dish soap or using JB's Perfect pen flush), but I decided to pop in a cart as I was pressed for time. Immediate start up, no adjustments were necessary. The nib is super smooth. The pen is very much like the Knight, length-wise, but it is lighter (which is a good thing), and more importantly, the section is longer, which makes it easier to hold. I was expecting a nice sturdy pen with a smooth nib, but this is better than I imagined! And it got to me in record time - great service, as usual.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For the long haul Neither Goulet Pens nor Pilot needs this review...the Metropolitan, with its substantial metal body, smooth nib that writes (predictably) on the finer side of medium, and understated design, will sell like crazy. And sell for $15. Yes. Really. I'm not ready to kick the Plaisirs or the Preludes to the curb, but the Metropolitan sure makes a great first impression. Simply, it's right sweet. And I suspect it will be for the long haul...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE these pens! I have two of these pens, and I love them. I teach third grade, and I use them at school all the time. My students are very curious about my fountain pens, and I can let them borrow these without fear as they are inexpensive. They have been dropped multiple times and used by some kids, and they are no worse for the wear. I also like that they each come with a converter so I can use my choice of ink. The ink capacity is large enough to write a fair amount but is not so great that I get bored with the ink. If you are looking for an inexpensive and indestructible workhorse pen that writes well, then look no more! This is your pen!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A nice and well balanced pen This fountain pen is a masterkey. The nib is not only interchangeable with Prera (F and M), Japanese FP (EF) and Plumix (which are offered in the European market with a wide range of italic nibs: EF, F, M, L and EL), but also the whole section of Metropolitan can be swapped with the Pilot 78G's (F, M and B golden nibs, this last one an smooth stub). The classic but modern cigar-shaped aluminium body is light and the cap fits perfectly. Who else can offer more for less? The only drawback is the motted nib, because I'm fonder of plain ones. To sum up, it's not as smooth as Prera's, but is a good choice for the money. If only it were available in colours and nibs of Japanese Cocoon! I don't lose hope.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible value This pen is an incredible value. It is solidly built, good looking, and writes wet and smoothly. The section looks glossy but somehow it is very grippy. Contrary to some reports I've read, mine posts quite securely. The nib is also nice looking, and exchangeable with other Pilot nibs from pens like the Prera, 78G, Plumix, etc. And it comes with Pilot's basic but effective squeeze converter. I like my Safaris, but I have to say, I think the Metropolitan has the Safari beat in most ways. It has a metal body, comes with a converter, and is less than half the price (if you buy a Lamy converter with a Safari)! The only advantages the Safari has are in color choices and a wider variety of nibs. (Lamy's customer service might also be a plus, but both pens should last a long time if not abused.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent pen for the cost My new best-value pen champ. Nice snap cap, posts with no issues, and enough weight to handle well while writing, but not too heavy. Great that it has a metal body. I got the plain finish black one and the finish and fit is quite good, especially for such an inexpensive pen. The clip is a bit plain but works well enough. The pen is a very smooth writer, at least with the Pilot ink. I have not had it long enough yet to try other brands of ink, but I'm sure it will work well with most of them, as do my other Pilots. The finger grip is a bit smaller than other pens I have, but it doesn't seem to be an issue while writing. All in all, a real value for this price point. Not fancy but a quality item which writes well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pilot raises the bar for entry level fountain pens I am amazed at the quality of the new Metropolitian. Metal construction, excellent finish, and typical smooth Pilot nib. Came with a converter and was packaged in a nice box. For fifteen dollars! I couldn't be more pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy one Allow me to pile on the same praise everyone else has. I spent 15 bucks and got a pen that writes very smoothly, much smoother than I thought it would, and doesn't require me to shell out for separate converter. It's a medium nib, but it's really about half-way between fine and medium if you're not used to Asian pen nib sizes. I'd say that for people looking for a value pen, this is very difficult to beat. I'd recommend this as a starter pen over a Lamy Safari or a Platinum Preppy--it feels more solid than either, is cheaper, and has its own converter.
