Pilot Metal Falcon Fountain Pen - Burgundy, Soft Extra-Fine

The Pilot Metal Falcon is a metal version of the very popular Falcon series. Slightly larger and heavier than the resin Falcon, this pen has a soft 14k rhodium-plated gold nib that will give you line variation as you change your writing pressure. The slightly longer body has enough room to accommodate the included Pilot Con-70 converter, giving you greater ink capacity for longer writing sessions. This burgundy fountain pen has a soft extra-fine nib and comes in a nice Pilot gift box.

The softness of the nib is such that if you want to use it for daily writing you can, without having to flex it out. Though if you do want to showcase line variation, all you need to do is increase your writing pressure on the downstrokes and it's there for when you need it.

The finish of the Metal Falcon is a gloss lacquer, with a sparkly metallic color that catches the light in a subtle, yet very impressive way. The pen is trimmed with polished rhodium accents, which really complement the burgundy color well.

This is a slightly heavier pen than most at 33g, a noticeable difference from the lighter resin version of the Falcon. It's well-balanced though, even posted. The screw-cap pushes on the back of the pen to post, and holds very firmly.

While the Metal Falcon is certainly an investment, if you appreciate Pilot's build quality and are looking for a reliable soft nib in a professional-looking pen, then you should give this pen a serious look.

Pilot Metal Falcon Fountain Pen - Burgundy, Soft Extra-Fine is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun and top quality This pen is extremely fun to use, writes with no issues at all. The weight to this metal version makes it feel not only balanced but gives it a high quality feel, as typical with Pilot fit and finish are excellent. For info regarding the flex of it I recommend seeing Brian Goulet's video of this exact pen, I would say it flexes to at least a broad if not a double broad and not a lot of pressure is required to make it flex. One thing of note with this extra fine nib when writing extra fine it is not a super smooth nib but it is by no means uncomfortable but it can be a little scratchy which may be important to some but as it is an extra fine that is to be expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Phenomenal device. I recently received my red Metal Falcon and it has surpassed all my expectations. Goulet did an amazing job at ensuring the safe arrival of the pen, and of course Pilot too with the leather case. First the color is a rich red that photos cannot do justice, and it is flawlessly combined with the rhodium trim. The CON-70 converter is easy to use and the capacity was quite more than expected. It writes well with steady flow and no bleeding, a little scratchy but that doesn't have an adverse effect on writing, for me at least. The combination of the weight, color, and writing style give this pen an "executive" feel about it, simply a cut above.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultimate in the soft EF nib class Yesterday I got my order from here and as usual it was superbly packed and arrived on time. This is my 3rd Metal Falcon SEF -- have the black and brown) so it tells you what I think about this (relatively expensive) pen: the best there is -- if you like a soft extra-fine nib then this is it. Excellent ink flow, great balance with or without posting, great look and feel, and Pilot/Namiki famous extra-fine nib (which is really an extra fine) ... there is nothing to dislike about this pen. Yes, $200+ sounds expensive for a pen, but if you love fountain pens and particularly soft nib, then Metal Falcon is worth every penny. BTW, mine are loaded with Iroshizuku inks ... perfection in itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A pen like no other Beautiful blue/crayola periwinkle color, very nice heft. The extra fine can feels scratchy, especially on anything but smooth paper--with light pressure it is Extremely Fine. After putting in some practice & getting to know the pen, it's a delight. It's more work to write with, but it feels like something really special and the variations in line width with pressure makes writing more of an art than a chore. It's not the pen to scratch out a phone number. It's a pen to experience, Consider your juice glass vs. a fine hand-blown bourdeaux glass. . . I obsess over this pen. I'll sit and write and write and write till my hand hurts. Have used Mont Blank black--lovely & old fashioned; J. Herbin Eclat de Saphir-romantic; Diamine Oxblood and Noodlers Black Swans and Australian roses--dramatic. You'll be inspired to study Spencerian script with this pen. A very nice splurge! And GREAT service from Goulet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely pen! Writing normally with a light touch, this pen gives a beautiful fine, well saturated line. It's as fine as the Pilot VP extra Fine, but I think it's much wetter, making for darker writing with saturated inks. Still learning to flex, but really enjoying playing with it. This will travel with my VP and my Ahab as my everyday writing arsenal. A different colour in each ... Of course!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Semi-Flex Goodness I originally purchased the pen with the hopes that it'd be a professional-looking fountain pen with smooth flow and some flex capabilities. Though it's less of a flex pen and more of a semi-flex, it's a gorgeous pen nonetheless! The combination of the semi-flex and the fine line of the extra-fine nib makes for very fluid line variation, although subtle. Though a bit pricey, this has easily replaced my Lamy Safari as my go-to pen for everyday writing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome pen After being disappointed with Noodler's flex pens, but enjoying flexy dip nibs, I decided to go for a Falcon... and I love it. The pen comes in a simple but nice box, with a Namiki Blue cartridge and the (massive) CON-70. The pen itself is gorgeous. The finish is a beautiful pearly burgundy-red and the rhodium trim is simple but elegant. It has a good size and weight for me--it feels nice and solid without seeming overly heavy. The nib is really, really fine, with a good, wet flow. It's a little picky about the angle its held at and can be a bit scratchy, but that's to be expected from a nib so narrow. It definitely does not claw at the paper, though, it just requires a careful hand. The variation from flexing is quite nice, and the flow keeps up very well. Also, I've heard that as these nibs "break in", they become even more pleasant to write with, so I'm looking forward to that! A little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Astounding Pen, Beautiful I chewed on this bone for a while, watched ALL of Brian's videos and read EVERY customer review. Decided to get the Metal Falcon. The SEF nib is awesome, my skills not so yet. I knew it would be scratchy but is even on Clairefontaine paper. Doesn't bother me as the line width is the finest I've ever seen in a FP, and it writes nice and wet. Not for cheap paper unless you barely touch the paper, tears the fibers so cheap paper feathers to beat the band. Not that heavy for me, about like my Waterman Carene. Drew Brown tested it at my request, and I got a great note written with my pen demonstrating its wonderful semi-flex ability. Wow, does Drew have wonderful handwriting and can make this wonderful nib rock. Thanks Drew! You have given me a great example of how my handwriting should look with this pen. I inked it up with Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses. This ink is very dark with this SEF nib, even when not flexed, and I love that! Team Goulet, you are the BEST!
