Pelikan Brilliant Brown 4001 (2oz Bottled Ink) is rated 4.6842 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ink - reliable - good color - well behaved This ink has become one of my favorites. I have never had a flow problem on any of the pens I have tried - Pelikan XF - Lamy 2000 XF - Noodler w/ Goulet XF nib - Plantinum 3776 XF. At the same time it doesn't spread out too much. Another two ink I like for their colors, Diamine's Oxblood or Sienna, work fine, but, for my taste, spread out and diffuse a more than I would like. Another good feature of this ink is that it is relatively inexpensive, and again, with good quality. It is not a "permanent" ink - I'm still looking for something with similar flow and color that is permanent. But again, for what it is, it is a great ink!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really nice golden brown I bought this ink thinking of a real brown color, but when I received it, boy was I surprised. I really love this ink. Pelikan doesn't have much variety of colors, but those they have are really nice, including this one. Called Brown or Brilliant Brown, it has a subtle golden tone to it. In some pens it tends o darken a bit over time, but out of the bottle it has a really nice true light brown, earth color with a very nice shade if you use broad nibs. It is an opaque ink but with a very nice transparency. As other Pelikan inks, it falls on the dry side.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pelikan's Brown Ink This is the color brown ink I have been searching for! Washes to a beautiful burnt sienna color and looks fab in conjunction with black ink!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super nice shading when paired with right pen This ink has ranges from a light brown to very dark brown that looks nearly black. Mid-range brown has a reddish undertone. In a dry pen it's light brown. In a flex pen when flexed, lays down a deep dark brown. When used in a cheap pen with a not so good seal, it starts out dark brown(due to evaporation from the nib), then slowly changes to mid-browns as the ink flows from the ink reservoir. Used in a thicker nib will give sufficient shading.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Golden Brown Delicious If you were to distill a chocolate chip cookie, a biscuit, and a piece of fried chicken into a bottle, you'd probably end up with an ink like this. I purchased this ink for purposes of color-coding edits to my novel's manuscript. Not trusting the tint on my computer screen, I expected the ink would look very muddy, but it pops out on the page. It doesn't have to take a back seat to any old, run-of-the-mill black or blue inks. Even on cheap paper it feathers and bleeds very little. A really good brown.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Brown with a slight Golden Hue. This is a lovely light brown that has a slight golden hue to it. Some days I like it some days I'm not fussed. Lots of people comment on it and seem to really like it. Fast drying with no bleed through. If you like browns as I do, it's a good colour to own.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pelikan ink quality as always Pelikan makes a good ink and their brown ink is satisfactory. What it lacks in some of the creativity and flair in the colors from other companies, it makes up for in reliability, excellent flow, and drying time. Works well in Pelikan pens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pelikan Brown Personal choice...This my long term keeper. I was looking for a very good "brown". A brown that was obviously a brown and not too dark or too light. Used in pens with fine, medium, or broad nibs...This is a brown.
