Noodler's Nib Creaper Flex Fountain Pen - Jade

The Nib Creaper (also known as the "Standard Flex Pen") was the first fountain pen produced by Noodler's, introduced in 2010, and is Noodler's smallest and slimmest fountain pen. It features a steel flexible #2 nib and a twist piston mechanism. A small ink window shows how much ink is left in your pen. These pens are made from a celluloid derivative. The vegetal resin body of this pen may show particles or striations within the material. This is most noticeable in demonstrators and bright colors.

The Noodler's flex pens were designed for the hands-on tinkerer - they are made to be taken apart and adjusted. The nib and feed pull right out and can be adjusted and heat set for optimal performance. Don't be afraid to get a little ink on your fingers while you learn how to use this pen.

As a simple rule of thumb for writing with a flex pen, just apply slight pressure on your downstrokes, which will spread the tines and increase the line width, achieving that optimal line variation. Make sure to go slowly so that the ink can keep up with your writing. As with any flex pen, it just takes practice!

Due to the residual machining oils used when cutting the feeds for these pens, we highly encourage you to give the pen a good flush before use. We recommend any of the following options: distilled water, water with a touch of dish soap, a pre-packaged pen flush, or a solution of 10% clear ammonia to water. This should resolve most ink flow issues!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Lovely Little Pen I really enjoy this pen. The color is happy, and I am pleased with the flex nib. It has a decent amount of flex in a durable steel nib. If you are looking for something that will give you greater line variety, look to dip pens and the Brause line of flex nibs. Overall, this is a very good writing instrument. My only complaint is that it only holds 1 ml. of ink and goes through it rather quickly. And a tip for new pen users, the nib and feed fit tightly in the pen (which is a good thing), so when you go to adjust them, make sure your bottle of ink is CAPPED and well out of reach of your hand.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I guess that I've been spoiled ... I guess that--after all the hype--I expected a but too much from this pen. I waited eagerly and anxiously for the Noodler's Flex pens to become available again. I watched Brian's video and prepared myself to tinker with the nib and feed ... which I did endlessly when my pens arrived. But the results were just OK. In full disclosure, I have a respectable collection of modern flex nibs, including Pilot Falcons and Nakayas that have been customized by John Mottishaw. So in hindsight it is no surprise that my expectations were out of whack. But newbies should be pleased ... give them a try BEFORE you spend bigger bucks ... NOT after.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go ahead. Take it apart. I have always enjoyed collecting vintage fountain pens. Not the real expensive kind, but the pens that ordinary people used. I liked to checkout the different filling systems, nibs, replace the sacs, stuff like that. I was never very interested in modern pens unless they were a copy of a vintage pen. Somewhere I read about the Noodler's pens and found your very informative web site. I now have one of each. These pens are inexpensive but well made. The greatest thing about these pens is that they come complete apart. Nothing is glued ? every part can be unscrewed and examined. You can play around with the nib and feed easily. Every pen collector should have these pens. They are a great educational tool and they write great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Elegance and power in simplicity I waited to give my review - until the initial delight had worn off and I could be objective and realistic. After all, I am talking about an inexpensive pen. Well, I have decided that it will be too long a wait for the delight to wear off - it has not faded at all. Everything about this pen has been thought about, and design choices made that I agree with. I smile when I pick it up, I show it off to friends. I find reasons to write just so I can use it. (Since getting my Noodler's Flex I have - for the first time in 35 years - got penfriends - and they want snail-mail). I am not a pen nerd, I am not a collector - I was looking for a pen that was affordable... I am delighted with what I found - elegant, simple, incredible value for money, and (proving that it is indeed mightier than a sword) it has improved my social life ;)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing To be clear, this is a pen for tinkerers and those interested in the mechanics of fountain pens. I was initially turned off by this pen until I saw it for what it is: an affordable, customizable, and easily repairable pen with a very flexible nib. After doing the modifications necessary to get the pen where I wanted it, it's truly amazing what this pen can do. The amount of flex is great and it snaps back very quickly. I would liken the nonflexed line to a German fine. The pen is a great size and weight, and I love the warm, natural feel of the vegetal resin that comprises the pen body. It does require a bit of gentle force to flex, and can make one'a hand tired. The flow is quite adjustable, but I've found it is a bit wetter than I'd prefer, some inks losing their shading. People with large hands may want to consider the Ahab or Konrad. Overall an excellent pen regardless of price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Noodler's Flex Nib Piston Fill Resin Fountain Pen I've been waiting for this pen for months and was elated when it came back in stock. After one week, I understand the pen better. At first it either ran dry or dripped ink. Brian's videos helped me deal with this. I still experience drips, but not as often. I find the pen to be lightweight and smallish. I'd like something a little heavier and more robust. But my final word is that this pen is fun to use and a great value. I'll probably buy another one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from a pleasant suprise This is an interesting little pen, my first flex-nib. When I first got it, it did have a bit of a smell (minty ... something), but it went away after a couple days in the open air. It is a very wet writer, and the flex requires a fairly heavy touch to get it going. It is a very narrow-bodied pen, my only complaint with it. The narrow body makes the pen uncomfortable for me for long periods of work. I love this pen for drawing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from experiment pen I got this pen to experiment with flex and colors. I love that you can adjust the nib and flow to match the amount of flex you want, as well as your handwriting style. Very useful for someone who requires superfine fountain pens for handwriting (and would be equally excellent for someone heavy handed. yay versatility). great for the price. the ink skips every so often if you don't keep the flow going. great pen.
