Noodler's Lexington Gray (3oz Bottled Ink) is rated 4.7083 out of 5 by 144.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Definitely gray, but black in wet nibs Wet pens such as the Noodler flex pens will not reveal this ink's grayish nature but instead give it a black color. Italics, broads, and western medium nibs tend to "spread" this ink out over a nice piece of non-feathery paper and reveal a very nice range of grays and blacks. The grays however, aren't exactly light gray but a dark gray. Kind of like gray found in stormclouds rather than gray overcast winter skies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Noodlers LEXINGTON GREY 4.5Oz Ink with free pe I bought this ink so I could wait a few days and use my drawings as the basis for watercolours in the knowledge that it would be waterproof and bonded into the celulose. So far I have not tried it but everything else about it the colour smoothness and sink in persuade me that ir will. The Preppy that came with it is in my experience an excellent pen for eyedropper use - somewhat easier to work with than Noodlers own.version of an ebonite pen. However from my point of view the Roller ball tip is a waste of time - it delivers a line so fine I have very little use for it, An ink refillable felt tip would be more useful. The stainless steel nib however is excellent and robust. This Ink is a great bargain in its large bottle which came well packed by Goulets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from What to say about grey? Grey ink is, well, dilute black. Write quick, thin lines, and get quick, thin ink. Write slow, broad strokes, and get something closer to black. It gives a good impression of antique writing, a faded black, but not a color in its own right. If you want that faded, antique look, this is the "color" for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my new pen! I ordered the Noodler's Gray for a calligraphy job, wedding invitations. The ink was not right for that job (the gray had to match the lettering on their invitaions) but I just love it! I so like my new pen. I use the gray ink in the pen. It really is waterproof! (How do they do that?) I used to do a lot of pen and ink drawings, and use it with water colors. I look forward to using both my new gray and silver grey inks in my future art projects. Thank you for super product and customer service! I ordered the Noodlers online Sun. night then Monday morning I sent an email and called to leave a message asking to add a Silver to my order. He was great about calling and emailing to confirm that he got my messages and added to my original order. Excellent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Noodler's Lexington Gray (3oz) I purchased this ink to use while I practice sketching with fountain pens. I love the color of the gray and have used it in letter writing and journaling as well. It flows well in the pens I've used and I will continue to use it for drawing and writing. Very flexible ink.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from waterproof, nice for pairing with watercolors This is a little softer than black and waterproof, so it is nice to pair with watercolors, and you get a little variation in ink density and color with the line thickness, which I like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great ink, great service! I found out about this company through the Facebook group Artists Journal Workshop. They raved about the service and I agree! Even before I placed an order, I gained knowledge from the thoughtful videos they've prepared explaining pen care and cleaning. The ink I purchased is a soft grey, waterproof so I can watercolor with it in my sketchbook. I couldn't be happier!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Slighty light I thought it would be darker, but when I mixed a few drops of Heart of Darkness into the cartridge, it came out well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's not Black, but it's Grey! This Noodler's Lexington Grey is my first bought from Goilet Pen. Really impressed with shipping speed and super care of packing. When I looked for Black Ink, the word "Grey" just caught my attention to spot on this ink unavoidably. It's not kind of general black ink, it's something different. It's Grey? No, it's not. It's more to Dark Grey to me. My feeling to this ink is the reflection of ink mixed with pencil at the same time. Strange but wonderful nice Ink ^^

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Gray Received this as a gift and grateful for it! I seldom use black, but as a professional, I like a blue-black or some similar color note-taking or signatures. Lexington Gray is a very pleasant gray, very wet, and makes a good contrast on white letter stock or yellow notepads.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ink for drawing. Noodler's ink in general works so well for drawing. A friend suggested I try the Lexinton Gray and it is wonderful to drawing. Thanks for wrapping the bottle of ink and padding it so well. It came through very well even with the winter weather.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this color I'm giving this ink one less star because it seems to put down a line that is slightly thicker than my previous inks...but its an early assessment and limited to use in a Lamy 2000. Prior to Lex gray I used Noodler's burgundy which by comparison had a script that appears crisper - which I like. I will now try the ink in other pens as I really like the appearance of the ink on white paper as a great alternative to an over whelming and over used black ink . If i can get both the color and crispness that I prefer I'll be back to give this ink 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A nice true gray. I've been looking for a true gray ink. Most of the grays I've tried have had a touch of a color tint (greenish, bluish, etc) when dry. Not so with this one. Noodler's nailed the color here. It's a nicely saturated gray with no other tones, not a watered down black, and dries to look like pencil on the page. The ink is well behaved with nice flow and excellent lubrication. In a pen with a wet nib, the ink will shade a bit but not overly so. I ordered a bottle of this to replace my Private Reserve Gray Flannel which turned out to have a greenish tint.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not great I've had this ink for a while. I have no issue with the color, and it's fine with a fine, dry writing pen, but for most paper/pen combinations it feathers. It feathers on clairefontaine with a wet writer. It feathers on cheap paper with a fine VP. If you have a fine, dry writing pen, and good paper it would probably be fine. It just doesn't suit any of my pen/paper combinations, and I can't recommend it as an everyday ink.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Gray Typical Noodler's quality. This achieves a nice medium gray without diluting a black and losing all of your water resistance and lubricating properties.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from noodler's lexington gray love it. give the quality of graphite in my drawings and sketches thus reducing the visual bang of black ink.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the gray! It's good for drawing and water color painting. Feel like a pencil but it's ink. Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Gray ( grey) for Art. Exactly what I needed! The Noodler's Lexington Gray is the perfect grey to accompany watercolors, creating a framework without overpowering like black ink sometimes does. As advertised, it stands up to washes in all the wet media sketchbooks I own ( a lot), without bleeding, and there wasn't a great deal of dry time. Presently being used in a Metropolitan. My only complaint is the new plastic bottles, I am afraid they will tip over. I prefer the old glass ones and hope they, or something similar will be returned. IN all, a very happy camper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go-to ink I bought this ink a few months ago on a whim. I wanted something that would stand out but not be too loud, and Lexington Gray delivered. It's now my favourite and I use it nearly daily. In my Kaweco Sport with an extra-fine nib, it gets mistaken as a pencil, and in my TWSBI 580 with a 1.1 mm italic nib the shading is beautiful and fun to play with. It's marked as bulletproof, and it definitely means it. Having gotten papers wet, the non-waterproof Diamine ink on the page smeared or washed away, but this ink stood its ground. If you're looking for a professional colour that's still interesting, and don't want to stay confined to either black or blue, I'd definitely recommend this. And if the previous statement doesn't apply, I'd still recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great with TWSBI Smoke This is the perfect combo for the TWSBI Smoke 540. You'll know from the samples if the color appeals to you, it is Gray and only Gray, which looks pretty cool. It doesn't show through a page as much as most colors I have, so I can have a bolder line than usual and still use both sides. My only complaint is that it seems to dry out faster than others on the nib, so sometimes if I pause in my writing, it takes a second to get it going. I assume this same quality is why I don't smear on the page as often, so I don't mind the trade off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Gray! I did a lot of agonizing over which gray to choose from Goulet's huge selection. So glad I chose Lexington Gray from Noodler's. I didn't want a gray that was too light or too dark and, as Goldilocks would say, this one is just right. I love Noodler's inks and this one didn't disappoint. I'm using it with a 1.1mm stub - subtle shading. Perfect for me!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from sketches and washes I agree with the past reviews: A great ink for sketching and washes. This, and Waterman Mysterious Blue, are wonderful for quick sketches, though the Waterman is not waterproof. The colour is soft enough to add black and/or other colours to my drawings. Works very well in my Lamy Vista (will try it in my F-C and Edison too)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this Gray Just got this today, and I really like it. I use Noodler's El Lawrence and B. Swan in A. Roses as alternatives to Noodler's Black and this one will become that too. Like a soft lead pencil, flows well, works well on cheap copy paper, a bit of bleed through on cheap notebook paper with a M nib. Of course works well on Rhodia and Clairefontaine. Dry time on Midori and absorbent papers seems quite short. Being bulletproof is important to me. Another Noodler's ink has joined my arsenal! Great Goulet service as usual.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like it ok, but its not my favorite. I tried it as long as i could stand it in my Lamy with an extra fine nib. I eventually decided i dont like it there. Then i tried it in my noodlers Ahab. I liked it better, but still didnt love it. So i tried it again in my Lamy with a 1.5mm nib. Here i liked it a lot. It seemed to be too runny and flow too fast for a fine or extra fine nib. But in the 1.5mm it shades nice, flows nice, feels smooth and gives me good bit of writing pleasure. I enjoy it on just about any paper with that nib too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful subtle color I wanted something lighter than black to try as a sketching ink with watercolor. This looks beautiful on the page and is perfect for a sketch line that doesn't overwhelm the added color. The free pen is great -- lovely nib and very smooth on the page.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Free Pen is now my favorite drawing pen The ink is waterproof with just a few minutes drying time... usually I can add watercolor pretty much as soon as I'm done drawing. I love the pen that came with the ink, smooth writing, nice line width, and the ink feed is smooth and consistent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice ink for sketching This ink was suggested on Facebook from Everyday Matters. I went ahead and ordered the bottle based on the reviews. It looks like graphite and can be used with watercolor. I'm glad I made the purchase. Now its my ink of choice for sketching.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am in " love"! As an artist who works in pen and ink, alone, and with watercolor, this ink is great! I love the beautiful ,subtle gray color. It flows well, and is waterproof.doesn't smear when I use watercolor with it. It is now my " new" favorite!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wasn't as useful as I thought (at least not yet) A friend recommended this for mixing with other inks. I have enjoyed this one, but bought a HUGE bottle and have not used it as much as I thought. Certainly no detraction from the ink or the service. Seems to shade very well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice drawing ink I am new to fountain pens and wanted an ink to draw with that I could the lay watercolor over. This works nicely. It does lift a little, but nothing like the heart of darkness which is really affected by water. Will buy again.
