Rated 1 out of 5 by from Blue Eel + Clairefontaine = Bad Behaving Blue I agree with most of the reviews about this ink. It is smooth with good flow and a nice color. But on smooth paper (i.e. Clairefontaine), which I use for copious daily note taking, it smudges, smears, and is very badly behaved. I came home after a full day of using this ink at work with stains all over the sleeves of my shirt where the ink practically leapt off the page and onto my clothes. As you lay down a line, you can literally see beads of ink pearling up on the paper. With more absorbent paper or cheap copy paper, there is no such issue. But in my notebook of choice, this is a bad behaving blue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow This is my first review so be kind... I love this ink! I got a sample in April's Ink Drop... The picture is not even close. This color is such a deep blue. Some have said like the blue of the US flag. But, I think it is even deeper and more like a pair of unwashed Levi 501's. I've been using it in my Noodler's Flex Pen. This is the first ink I've used that people keep asking me about it. They've never seen a blue like it... I never thought I would find a better ink than Baystate, but I have to say, this blue is now my favorite. I only wish it was permanent. I got my bottle yesterday, and filled my 1940's Esterbrook, and it works flawlessly! So smooth, and write's beautifully. I then loaded it in my Lamy Safari... I now like this pen. Again so smooth. I highly recommend this ink!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great color, plus... I would be happy with regular Noodler's Blue, but I got curious about what the "Eel" meant. So, after some searching (hint: this info could be made easier to find) I learned that the "Eel" was for lubricating the piston in piston-filler fountain pens. As luck would have it I recently noticed that the piston in one of my favorite pens, a Pelikan 800, was kind of sticky, so my next fill up with this pen will be the Blue Eel. I love the color but would hate to have to change due to a sticky filler, so this ink is just what I needed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Vivid and Smooth I'm very fond of this ink. Vivid colour and smooth out of a variety of pens i have tried (Parker 45, Ahab and Lamy Safari). As with all Noodlers Inks, the supply is plentiful. I enjoy using it so much that I'm glad I bought two bottles right off the bat. Having said that, there is such a range of vivid blue out there that I'm not sure I would keep this one permanently stocked in my own collection. Certainly worth a try though. Can't make much comment on the lubricating properties as I have had no trouble with piston or plunger-converter mechanisms on my pens thus far (even without a lubricating ink).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Patriotic Blue I just got mine two weeks ago and I'm quite satisfied with it. Like Brian showed in his video, Noodler's are filled right to the top; (1/16" below the rim). Be sure and hold it down on a table so you don't spill it! To me Blue American Eel looks a bit darker than the swab shown on this page. The shade I get reminds me of the blue star field on the American flag, hence the name Blue American... Color fade as it dries is almost imperceptible, it stays dark. The ink that came with my Lamy Vista faded quite noticeably compared to the American. I'm using it the Lamy Vista, a Parker Urban and a Libelle New York Speed. It writes particularly smooth in the Libelle. I will buy another Blue American when this one runs out!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spectacular performer and wonderful shading Gotta pen with nib "issues"? Try this! Even with wet nibs, the Eel ink can provide superior lubricant and cushion when using papers that just don't want to cooperate with fountain pen nibs. I've tried close to a 100 different inks over the years and this one is my "go-to" ink for lubricating. And it has excellent shading on high-end papers like Rhodia and Clairefontaine, but not so much on absorbant papers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like it. I bought it as I wanted an ink from the Noodlers that is not waterproof. Well after trying it on a few kinds of paper and flooding them in the sink. This does not do to bad when it comes to staying on the page. You get a little blue washing away. But plenty blue left to read what is there. I used enough of a wash of water the paper was starting to come apart. So it does not work for what I had in mind. But it writes with a smoothness you can feel. It is also a very nice blue. I will just use it for my every day writing. My Ahab likes it and so does my Safari. Nice ink give it a try.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beutiful but finiky Love the service, that is always first and foremost at Goulet pens, apparently, because they always deliver with uncompromisable professionalism. Now for the product. It only gets 4 stars because of how it preformed. that is my fault, I should have sampled it before purchasing the full bottle. With that said I do like the cleaning and lubrication qualities it has. I got it because I love Noodler's products, (I have a flex nib and regular piston fill). It won't hold a stream in the flex nib without it being adjusted for some reason, and many of Noodler's inks will do that. I found it is stunning to look at but a pain to use, it will do fine in the standard Noodler's piston fill I have. Overall a decent buy, if you don't mind playing with your flex nib pen to get it to work; (I did not want to do that). I would recommend putting it in a broad nib pen, it would run much better and look great.
