Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice color but drier than I am used too Nice color - very enjoyable. I am using it in a Lamy Vista, Fine nib. It flows OK, but quite a bit drier than say Parker Quink Blue-Black. Weather in the Great White North is very cold & indoors very dry, so this may be playing into the experience. Once I start it for the writing session it is fine, but requires an initiating squiggle on scrap paper / margin to get it flowing. I also notice that it builds up a dark blue residue on the nib over the day. Wipes off, but never experienced this before. Bad Blue Herron froze in delivery, and leaked a wee bit, but the packaging prevented a big mess, so I am happy with my first Noodler's experience.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Color (if you can put up with nib creep) Due to feathering, I switched from Polar Blue to Bad Blue Heron (BBH). No feathering, but, now I have nib creep. This is a darker blue, but readily recognized from black so I can tell an original from a copy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ocean Blue! This ink is amazing. I decided to get it because it seemed as if it could be more than one color, and it was. In a finer nib, it's a lighter blue, like in the ocean when water hits the rocks, it has a sort of green hue to it. On a broader nib the ink darkens to the color you see on the swab in the product image. It's a great ink and truly is bullet proof. It's a good ink for various nibs, because of the color differentiation. Also, there is some very slight shading depending on the nib that you use. If you're not willing to buy this bottle, at least buy the sample, because it's definitely worth it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wanted to like, but doesn't function well I really, really, really, really wanted to like this ink. First let me say that the color is beautiful and it's a pretty solid ink on paper. It's not bright, but it's definitely not dull. It says, "Hey, I'm blue, but I'm a serious blue." The down side is that it clogs; it clogs really quickly. I tried to keep the cap on when I'm not writing, but if it's uncapped for more then 2 minutes (literally, and I think I'm being generous) the ink starts clogging. I was doing taxes with it, and I was not capping the pen; I had to keep a separate paper with me to scribble on to get the ink flowing between calculations. By the end of the session, I realized that the ink was clotting! A bunch even clumped together on the top of the nib. I wanted a good secure ink, but functionality must come first. I soaked and cleaned this ink out of my nib (most of it). and have no intention of putting it back in. I'm back to my Kaweco black ink. I suppose, when my budget allows, I'll try something else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Ink! If you are looking for a water-fast blue ink that isn't too expensive I would most definitely recommend this. It's not strictly waterproof. If you let it soak in water whatever pigment that did not bind to the paper will float away and mark up other parts of the paper, but the ink that remains is practically welded to the paper. The effect is much less noticeable in this ink than in the B.B. Kingfisher, for reference. I have a couple of solvents in my garage that I tried; water, isopropyl alcohol, acetone, MEK... Nothing could take this off the paper. MEK destroyed the little plastic cup that I soaked the paper in, which was to be expected, but the ink didn't budge. It also has a teal undertone that I really like, but others may not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning contrast! (sometimes) Great waterproof blue-black color. A bit hard to clean out of pens (likes to form a residue that takes time to wash out), and there tends to be some nib creep. I sometimes find it dull under my compact fluorescent lamps in the evening, but it's a much more interesting color in daylight. In a fairly wet writer with a medium or broad nib, it can deliver stunning contrast. It seems just to pop off the page.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Noodler's Ink After trying BayState Blue Ink from Noodler's on another side (sans review) and staining Waterman FP piston cartridge, I decided that I liked the vibrant color and the Made in USA of all the parts and packaging but needed a new color. YouTube showed me the Bernanke Blue and I began my search. Several retailers did not carry it and then I came upon my new favorite ink supplier! Not only did the Blue Eel and Bernanke Blue but they notified me via e mail when the restocks of ink were in. I just wish I had discovered the blogs before I ordered the BAD blue Heron and saved me the massive clean up of my Parker 75 !!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Ink I have been using this ink for about a month and am happy with its performance. The properties of the ink are very good; I have had no problems with skipping or bad starting in a variety of different pens and it does not stain surfaces as badly as other inks, while at the same time it is very permanent once on paper. The color, however, is leaning a bit more towards green when compared to other blue inks. Just keep this in mind if you are looking for an intense blue color.
