Noodler's Ahab Flex Fountain Pen - Black Pearl

The Ahab flex pen was introduced in late 2011 and is currently Noodler's most popular fountain pen. It features a steel flexible #6 nib and a slide piston mechanism. If you'd like, you can even remove the piston mechanism and use the pen as an eyedropper for a massive 6ml ink capacity. The Ahab is made of a celluloid derivative and is technically biodegradable and formed from a "renewable resource". The vegetal resin body of this pen may show particles or striations within the material. This is most noticeable in demonstrators and bright colors.

The Noodler's flex pens were designed for the hands-on tinkerer - they are made to be taken apart and adjusted. The nib and feed pull right out and can be adjusted and heat set for optimal performance. Don't be afraid to get a little ink on your fingers while you learn how to use this pen.

As a simple rule of thumb for writing with a flex pen, just apply slight pressure on your downstrokes, which will spread the tines and increase the line width, achieving that optimal line variation. Make sure to go slowly so that the ink can keep up with your writing. As with any flex pen, it just takes practice!

Due to the residual machining oils used when cutting the feeds for these pens, we highly encourage you to give the pen a good flush before use. We recommend any of the following options: distilled water, water with a touch of dish soap, a pre-packaged pen flush, or a solution of 10% clear ammonia to water. This should resolve most ink flow issues!

Noodler's Ahab Flex Fountain Pen - Black Pearl is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from No adjustments needed for me! Perhaps I got lucky, but I ran water through the filler once, filled it up, and it worked beautifully. No problems whatsoever, a very wet pen, and has problems starting once in a while, but for $20, WELL worth the price. As one of the only modern flex pens, it is absolutely worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this pen. This has become my favorite pen for my journal and for keeping notes about whatever is going on. It's very smooth to write with and a pleasure to hold. I am neither a calligrapher nor a pen expert so I haven't gotten it to write thick and thin lines, and the nib seems stiffer than I was expecting. However I believe that's me and not the pen. I really enjoy it, and let me add that it was beautifully packed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shimmering dark Mine is a shimmery black with a couple of spots of silver and is very attractive. The flex nib works well and the pen seems to have good flow even though I have only inked it with Parker blue/black so that is not much of a test. I expect that it would work much like the other 20 or so Ahabs I have and they work well. The writing is smooth and even unless I flex it

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Noodler's Ahab Flex Well... I expected something more flexible. Creaper is much better, although it is smaller. But both of them scratch paper when flexing - is that a question of ink? What made me little nervous was that the pen stinks pretty much when new. After couple of weeks it is ok.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Noodlers Ahab Great thick pen, good for sketching and writing. The flex nib allows a variety of line thickness that are practical with sketching (only one pen) and gives some character when writing (can bold the font when writing). Excellent value for money. It is a bit thick for small hands.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from unworkable... I've tryed to use this pen in several configuration of the nib as shown in video with no success. its unworkable for me as a writing instrument. it either pool ink into a blob or cant get ink at all. I recieved a free with noodler x feather ink order and like that one much better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent starter pen Its a good starter pen that you can tailor to your needs (via feed modifications). I'm getting some hard starts with it, but I think I can just open up the feed a little to resolve that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Supremely satisfied with this purchase. The nib is a touch stiff but handles nicely and produces a beautiful varied line for calligraphy and doodling.
