Lamy Safari Fountain Pen - Charcoal, Fine is rated 4.6818 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Fountain Pen This was my first fountain pen I ever bought. Manufactured in Hamburg, Germany, it was a little more expensive than some I could have chosen, but I believe it was worth every red cent. One does need to purchase the converter separate. Both of Lamy's converters will fit, but go with the Z24, due to the set pins on the side of the converter. It does have an ostentatious red twist mechanism, but what do you care, it's hidden within the barrel. Another great thing is how easily one can change the nibs and the number of different options. One thing is that Charcoal is not as dark as I anticipated, but I still don't have any buyer's remorse.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid entry level pen The Safari was my second FP (Pilot Metropolitan was first). I really like the grip, though I suspect this is a love it or hate it thing. I don't mind the feel of the plastic...for plastic. I find the F and EF nibs to be scratchy but M and fatter are much smoother. The one down side for me is that the "snap cap" doesn't stay snapped closed. Posted it is fine, but if you carry in your pocket as I do the cap will not stay on. Luckily my pockets aren't large enough for the cap to come completely off so what happens normally is that it dries out a bit. I have two Safari's and they both do this. I will have to find a different EDC pen. I would still recommend this pen to anyone using fatter nibs and carrying differently than I do.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Beginner Fountain Pen If it attests to the pen, I lost my first one and bought a second one immediately. Overall, a great pen, feels good in the hand and lots of color combos from which to pick. I'd advise anyone to purchase this pen to start and watch the Goulet YouTube channel for help. Only downsides to the pen is the professional look and cost - nothing against the actual pen. For the price and styling, there are better beginner pen options. This should in no way discourage a buyer from this awesome pen though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This pen writes like a dream! I originally bought this pen off of amazon and have been using for about a month now. I ordered the EF nib pen along with a bottle of Lamy Black ink and coming from a Pilot Varsity, its is a tremendous improvement. The lines come out extremely thin and smooth and dry almost instantly. As my first "real" fountain pen, I can say that this is definitely going to turn into a hobby and also help me better my penmanship and writing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Pen : Excellent The pen has a nice feel to it. I could just be saying this as I came from using ball-point pens which require so much downward force that switching to *any* fountain pen will feel like a relief. The pen construction is very solid. The pen is light but not too light for my taste. The adapter for filling ink from a bottle, fits perfectly. The nib is butter-smooth on any paper I have tried so far (even crappy card stock from Office Max). The pen plays very well with several inks I have tried so far. That cap pops on and off with a distinctive click and holds well on the back of the pen when I am writing. The clip also adds a somewhat rugged feel to the pen without making the pen feel like something a cave person used to scratch stuff on a wall somewhere in a remote island. I love the viewing portal where I can see ink level without unscrewing the body of the pen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good at any price I am very pleased with this pen. If you are taking this pen to work and want a serious looking pen, I think the Charcoal is the best choice. Its dark and mat finish look quit the professional here. You should be comfy with this grip however. I happen to be, so I'm lucky. The nib is surprisingly smooth with little feed back. It writes instantly the first time and everytime since. I was very pleased with the blue black cartridge that came with the pen, it's more of a true dark blue. It does not have that bland stilted blue black look like others do. After all, this is not 1914, it's 2014. It is good for letter writing as well as more formal document signing. The pen has a cap that snaps on with a click you can hear and solid feel. I highly recommend this pen. As usual I was impressed, as always, with the superb services provided by the company. Of course a company is only as good as it's staff. Thank you so very much for a great pen and buying experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nifty and Thrifty This pen is a nice matte black with a textured feel on it. It writes nice and smooth with the EF nib I chose. I love this pen. It was my very first fountain pen and it writes like a champ. I often write with it while eating Spongebob Kraft Mac & Cheese. Doing so increases my writing abilities to the maximum. I always twiddle my fingers on the cap for safe keeping. I recently took this pen to my church and got it baptized. It was great. If you want to be the coolest kid in town, and you love to get down. Then this pen is for you. I recommend getting EF( extremely finicky). I use it on a daily basis. While fishing I use it as my hook. Yes, I tie it to some line and then hook, line, and sinker. I caught a big one. I also use it to scratch my head. This pen is awesome!! It is indestructible. I once used it to light up a pop-tart. Have you ever heard of those!? Well how bout a Snot-Tart? Stick it up your nose make snot come out. Haha lol just kidding. You should get this pen. It's a great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fountain Pen Newbie Dives In After receiving some Christmas money I decided to purchase my first real fountain pen as a grown up and came across the Goulet Pen Co. What a serendipitous find! I scoured the website for several days reading reviews, watching videos and looking at ink blotches to decide the best way to spend my dollars. I narrowed my pen selections down to two- The Lamy Safari in charcoal, fine tip, and the Noodler's Ahab Flex pen in Jade. After using both pens now for the last 6 weeks I can easily say that of these two: the Lamy Safari wins hands down! Such a smooth nib, just the right diameter for my hand to make a very comfortable grip, love the ink window to see when a refill is needed, and great price for an introductory pen. I did get the converter for quick and easy refills. Worth it! The finish on this pen is such that if dropped in my purse, small scratches do not mar the finish. Not so with a resin pen. If you are looking for a great introductory fountain pen - look no further. The Lamy Safari does not disappoint!
